i just got my first AR-15. its a DPMS Oracle 5.56 and i am looking to buy some magpul stuff, mainly a stock, handguard and a couple magazines, but i have no idea what i need so it will fit on this gun.

do i need a handguard with a specific length to fit this gun?
i think the gun is not milspec (commercial, i believe?) so do i need to buy a commercial stock or will a milspec fit?
which online vendor has the widest selection for magpul accessories with good prices?

Be sure to get the DVDs as well. Chris Costa will elevate your operator skills to a whole new level.

Take a look at the buffer tube on your rifle with the stock removed. If it is flat across the back (square 90*) you have a mil spec tube. If it is angled it is commercial spec.

Your hand guard length will be most likely carbine length, generally 10-16" barrels have a carbine length gas tube.

Check out OSTS. Or the EE.

EE can have great prices on magpul stuff, especially considering that many people just dress up their gun from time to time and the part is basically new.

Congrats. OST has some of the better prices for Magpul furniture but last I checked, their inventory was on the low side. SFRC and Wolverine are my goto sources as well. CTCS will probably have most of what you want in stock but they're the pricest of the bunch.

Edit: Looking at DPMS site, it lists the Oracle with a commercial tube and looks like a carbine gas system.

Get some ammo and some mags (magpul, okay, d&h, etc.). Bfg sling. Ten speed chest rig or padded belt. Take a course at your local range.

By some magpul doodads later.

Ya, get some LAR pistol mags or even some Beowolf mags, much more bang for your buck ;)

It's def commercial stock. Nice gun for the money, shoots pretty good.

You're getting the hand guard to mount stuff or for the kewl factor (or noth?) Also budget for some kind of optic / red dot or otherwise. If you replace the hand gurd, be prepred for a fight with the old one. It took me a while to get mine off. Either I got a real honeymoon fit, or they're all that way...

i have a bushnell trs-25 on it right now. the hand guard is for cool factor for now. dont know what i really need to mount on it yet. i will cross that bridge when i get to it. :)

I have an Oracle, it's an awesome AR for not too much. My next one is going to be a Daniel Defense. The Oracle was just to see if I liked the platform. I have a Fab defence quad rail, and sights, magpul moe buttstock, fore grip, and pistol grip. Also picked up a Vortex strikefire red dot. I run E-lander, magpul, and LAR mags mostly. I've used MFS, American Eagle, and Barnaul ammo with out any issues. It's as accurate as I can shoot it, I've never had any issue so far.

Congrats on your new AR. If you're interested in some training, I can help you out. I'm located near Trenton which is fairly close to you. I can arrange for a one on one range day and get you up to speed with basic skills or whatever you need. Please let me know if you're interested. Thanks.

Take care and stay safe.

I wouldn't buy anything from a store that is telling a newbie to buy a bunch of stuff for a gun he has zero experience with instead of shooting the piss out of it and finding out by his own experience wether or not he needs to add accessories.

Ammo, mags, ammo, sling, ammo, training and a ####load of empty brass is what I would recommend you.

i see nothing wrong with their reply. i stated what i was looking for and he told me what they had available.
