I managed to bloody the 243. Not your conventional way to hunt a yote.
Having my morning coffee and I see a coyote run into my field.
Run down stairs and grab the 243. Come out and its still there.
I stepped out on the deck and let fly.
243win 100g partitions over IMR4350
threw the shoulders and down she went
shot was maybe 40-50yrds.

When I skinned it out I was surprised. The shoulders were totally smashed. The exit hole in the hide was only slightly larger then the entrance. Id saw very pelt friendly. Bullet appears to have held tougher nicely. This is my first experience on game with Partitions. so far pretty happy.

Nice healthy female

I shot a coyote 25 years ago with a 100 gr Sierra Gameking out of my .243 with a perfect Texas heart shot at 200 yards, there was no entrance or exit wound!!!...good job protecting the homestead!

Stepped out onto the deck ? Did a reno for a guy and one of the specs was that the kitchen window had to open, so he could shoot at coyotes, in with his cattle. House to the trees was 293 yards. :)

I've never heard of a texas heart shot before. I googled it. Laughed alot. Thanks for that gem!

Wouldn't that shot........taint.......the meat

Unless I was naked and afraid for 21 days in the bush I won`t be eating any coyotes any time soon!...I had that coyote made into a rug by my taxidermist, I took it to him frozen and with out skinning it. When he thawed it out he said it was the most perfect skin he had ever worked on of an animal that had been shot! :)

I'm in the Trenton/Belleville area, i've hunted dog before but never in a very productive way. If anyone around here would like to show me a thing or two I would love to learn.

"Texas heart shot" (From the urban Dictionary)

A term used among the deer hunting community to describe an amateurish or other wise incompetent hunter who, through carelessness or lack of skill, shoots his deer directly in the ass instead of the vitals. These so-called hunters usually demonstrate the act on immature bucks or small does as these animals are easy game even for novice hunters. Luckily, big bucks seldom fall victim to this type of incompetence due to the fact they easily outsmart these neophyte hunters.

The phrase is derived from novice hunters acting like 'cowboys' in the woods, shooting without aiming, taking risky shots and posing other hazards, ultimately wounding deer with the dreaded 'texas heart shot'.

Mmmm, Coyote Won-tons....

I may be mistaken, but was their not a restaurant raided in the last few years that had coyote carcasses in the freezer? I can not remember where I may have heard this, could be an urban legend!

I did a google search, OMG it has happened a few times both here in Canada and the USA!!!....for all I know I have eaten coyote and liked it too!!!Laugh2
