SKS gunsmithing question

Good Day All,

I have checked with all the smiths in Calgary but none of them are setup to work on SKS's (at least from the aspect of the work I want done). I need to find someone who can remove the front sight block (including bayo mount), chop off the bayo mount and reattach the front sight further on the barrel then raise the height of the front sight to use with a rear BUS, then thread the end of the barrel to accept a 30 cal muzzle break. I am not against shipping the barrel/action to a gunsmith but not even sure who to talk to about it.

This is what I have been thinking:

Any suggestions would be nice.
 
Removing the Front Sight Base and ultimately the bayonet lug portion is not too difficult a job for a Gunsmith. The addition of extra height to the sight base requires welding and may be beyond the capability of some Smiths. An option to make the project easier might be to use an "Tech Sight" SKS adjustable rear sight.
If you go to the Tech Sight website and have a look, you might find it to be a suitable alternative. It attaches to the rear of the receiver, and works with the factory front sight base.

It can be done, but it will not be worth the effort. You will have to cut it, add metal, weld it, grind it, and make it nice a purddy.

I would suggest cutting off the sight and grafting it to the gas block if you want to go through the trouble of welding metal.

Or you could try instaling a AR-15 front sight. Perhaps a clamp-on.

Its funny I'm literally doing the same thing to my sks right now in calgary, we've taken off the front site post, we are threading the barrel and putting a custom double gilled muzzle brake, we have cut the barrel down to 18.5 inches, recrowned it, and we are milling out the receiver to accept that texas designed AR mag adaptor, took the rear site leaf and put a BC tactical scout mount on, drilled holes in the gas tube, and a lot more. the gun will be done when i return from holidays in January. Ill post pics and if the job is good ill give ya my gun smiths name. Its going to be a big pain welding a front site extender. Id get some one to mill you a new one out of steel or aluminum

Problem is doubt it will have a .750 dia barrel. Be more closer to like .625.
