Hi Folks.

I'm planning to purchase my first handgun in the next year. Was thinking of an M&P22. From what I have seen in the reviews it seems to nice. On a plus side,it seems to like most ammo and is the same size as the 9mm.

Any opinions on it vs some other .22?

Lot's of different .22 out there...m&p seems to have a good following, I'm a Gsg fan myself, and any more are ruger fans ...so I guess, as always, it depends on what your ultimate shooting goals are..choose a platform that works towards that and fits you right...enjoy..

Had a M&P22 and a GSG. Kept the GSG, let the M&P go. Nothing really wrong with the M&P just appreciated the weight of the GSG more.

Note that the M&P22 does not have changeable back straps like an actual M&P and it's got a thumb safety which the actual M&P doesn't have.
Also the slide is a tiny bit wider than a 9mm M&P.

So it's not quite a M&P per say, but very close.

I did the opposite. I found the M&P to have a higher quality feel and it's also a lot less picky with ammo. It still does better with solid-nose ammo. The sights were a lot better for elevation too. Another factor is that the GSG has that crappy screw that changes POI every time you remove it.

I've never noticed that happening?

Should have mentioned that my GSG is ArmCo tuned and has a DLASK fiber front sight and adjustable rear sight. It has never been ammo fickle.

I found the M&P22 sights very course and the pistol to be too light (not at all like my M&P9) for my liking. Other than that it was OK.

If yours has been tuned, then it probably has an all-metal upgrade kit (including the barrel bushing) to ditch that allen screw? The adjustable sights are pretty expensive and a good upgrade for sure.
Anyways to the OP: I highly recommend the M&P: Good trigger, reliable, nice feel, easy to clean, not ammo picky.

Had both, got rid of the MP22, finding parts for it are like harvesting unicorn tears, impossible.
GSG 10 times the gun in my opinion

I've got the m&p 22. Overall I like it, feels like a nice gun.
I find that it gets dirty really fast which causes cycling problems. This appears to be independent of ammo used.
In contrast to my browning 1911 22 (which I sold), which would require less field cleaning.

Also remember that it only comes with 1 mag, additional are about $40.

If you are thinking of acquiring other M&P pistols, the M&P22 is a nice addition to the family. I'm pretty pleased with mine.

However the Ruger Mark I, II or III are very solid pistols and great for casual target shooting, and should last you a lifetime.

I like the accuracy of the Rugers and the Browning Buckmarks are none to shabby as well

Lots of nice 22 pistols on the market, the M&P 22 is a nice gun. Have one with about 5,000 rounds down range and no issues at all.

As for pistols I'm more a "1911 guy", but a buddy let me try his M&P22 last week and I was quite impressed. It won't be your last pistol anyway (and thats a good thing).

Another option to consider is the sig sauer p226 available as a .22lr. It is more expensive than either the m&p or gsg but has conversion kits that let you quickly swap to a 9mm or .40 s&w in seconds.
