7mmx39 for Deer?

The small 4x4 on the top pic had a ring where his heart used to be.Bleeding so bad Stevie Wonder could have found him.I'm impressed with the effect so far on medium sized critters.The CZ is predictably boringly accurate..Privi brass Fed mag primer[cut group size in half} 123gr Hornady SP and 25gr/H4198 usuall 1/2" to one hole groups at 100 yards.This with a fixed 4x Leupold and my 54year old eyes.Bottom dear double lunged bleed great as well.........Harold

I'd have a suppressed one in a heartbeat if they were legal up here fer hunting. AR's are a great platform for a pile of good chamberings.
The SKS certainly works as a hunting rifle. I have taken 3 deer. Max range 75yrds, max run 15 yrds. The vast majority of deer in the last 25 years have been in heavy brush with a 30-30. The round seemed to punch through a bit more than a 30-30 but they all bled everywhere then fell over. I would consider getting a TS100 sight but that would practically double what I paid for the rifle. I was talking out of my butt in regards to the surplus ammo thing and shouldn't be trusted.

hmmmm.... you got me thinking... plenty of 6.5 kicking around here... toying with the idea of a 6.5x39... fun concept.
This one was so insulted by being shot at with an SKS, it had a heart attack and dropped on the spot into its own shadow...
Either that, or the Hornady SST round dumped enough energy on a neck shot to short out the CNS and it was just as dead before it hit the ground as if it had a heart attack. Hard to say
p.s. 1.2x-6x scope on a MagWedge rail - generous eye relief and wide field of view for snap shots, and a bit of magnification so you can get good shot placement at 100-150 yards. This shot was taken at about 25 yards, so the scope was at 1.2x, which is what I leave it at for "walking around" in case a deer pops up out of its day bed and just stands there profiled, asking to become dinner (which is what happened here)...

Yes, but with less taper. I'm thinking a rebarreled CZ527 (7.62x39 to 6.5x39) would be a fun little project.
(Ack, that 125 Gr is little better than a 30-30, not much so. I make my own 150Gr Sp on a Winchester case with 27 Gr of 4895. The ballistics puts it within the low 308 power. One of the sponsors has factory made 150 Gr but the shipping was pricey for my area of NB.)
“WHAT” you can get enough powder in a 7.62X39 case to duplicate 308 velocities. I think NOT. The listed velocity of 308 Win factory 150 gr. is 2840 fps. And the Hornady hi velocity is 150 fps faster.
