Hi guys,

The kids are basking in the afterglow of Xmas gifts so I have a few moments to myself and obviously my thoughts turn to shooting!:d

I have a few questions that I'm a little confused about after reading rules for Production division online.

1) Can I use orange paint on my front sight, or just "sight black" as it says in the rule book?

2) Stippled grips are not allowed, correct? But i can use any aftermarket grip, VZ for example?

3) Trigger springs/recoil springs.... Am I allowed to use Wolff springs, any weight that I want?

Sorry for the newb questions, taking my Black Badge in the spring and want to be prepared.

I thought there was something about the painting being clarified.
Grips have to be of the same profile IIRC so they should be ok unless it is something like a NIL with a thumbledge.
Depending on the gun there are plenty of OFM springs available with the right packaging.
You also have the option of doing the mods sort of a comp and optics and shooting standard division or like PapaHotel suggested go Classic.

For competition:

1. Sure, no problem.
2. So long as the aftermarket grip matches the profile of one of the existing OEM grips, you're OK.
3. Nope. Factory springs only.

For the actual black badge, you can do anything you want.

Thanks for the response. For point #3, shooting a Factory "D"spring in a Beretta 92 would be Ok? It's made by Beretta.

Also, if I wanted to use all the mods I mentioned above (stippled grip, sights, trigger spring), what division would I have to compete in?

Is the D spring a factory option for the 92? If it is then yes, its OK.

Regarding divisions, as long as the gun fits in the box you can compete in Standard division.

You CAN change your sight for Production as long as you don't change the original factory cuts in your slide.

You can change your springs with other factory specification springs to lighten your double action, lighter recoil springs. You are NOT allowed to use the fancy aftermarket recoil reduction spring systems. Think along the lines of factory parts...

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

I'll have to look into standard division and see what's involved.

Standard is simple: no comps or optics, must fit in IPSC spec box with mag inserted. 2 types of scoring - minor (9mm) & major (.40, .45 &.357sig). Major scoring is favored, but you can win with minor if you're very good.

where are you located at? it would probably help you to talk to a local IPSC person rather then whats here. in most cases they can show you guns and explain the differences.

Clob, you can put grip tape on factory grips, or you can use pretty much any aftermarket grip that is basically the same as the factory grip profile. D springs are legal, as you say, they are factory made.

I want to venture in Shotgun IPSC competitions. I read up IPSC rules and regulations in regards to shotgunning. They were clear about the equipment but a tad muddy about the ammunition to be used.
For a "normal" IPSC shotgun match, what shells do people use? Buckshot? What size?

If somebody could enlighten me - that would do me good.

I've only done one (well-organized, thanks Peterborough!!!!) shotgun match.. We shot all 3 kinds. Mostly just bulk target load birdshot, a few buckshot targets (i was proud to have nailed the swinger AA - about the only thing that went right for me lol) and a few slugs.

ss1980, you can start right from the IPSC Shotgun rule book. ipsc.org/pdf/RulesShotgun.pdf

PS: btw, to participate in any sanctioned IPSC Shotgun matches you will have to be an IPSC member and in other words have to get a black badge certification, which is currently a handgun-only course

Thank you. I am a Black Badge and want to venture into shotgun matches. I reviewed the Rule Book. The Rule Book is not clear on the use of what ammunition. What I've read is that bird shot will not be counted on paper targets. So what do people shoot? Buck shot? What number?

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Did you shoot bird shot at paper targets? I've read in the rule book that bird shot will not be counted on paper. There is another issue of bird shot spread vs. slugs and buck shot.
