I have an 870 express with changeable chokes, a Browning Gold Hunter with choke tubes too, and an older Browning A5 with a fixed modified barrel. All 12 gauge.
I like shooting the Browning Gold Hunter the best, but I shoot poorly with it. On my last outing I ended up with 7 ducks, but I'm embarrassed to tell how many shells I used.
With the 870 I shoot the best, and miss the least, but the recoil is a little stiffer than with the Browning Gold.
The A5 is a wonderful classic, fits me nicely and I have shot my only triple with that gun, but still, I seem to miss lots with that gun too. My latest favourite spot sees the ducks coming in to decoy closer too so I prefer to use my IC choke rather than modified for that and of course the A5 has no IC choke being a fixed modified.
So do I go back to my 870 because I am confident I can hit a higher percentage of the time with it, stick with the Gold and keep trying to get better with the gun, or try the old A5 again and try to get better with it too? Both Brownings are fun to shoot, I'll concede that but the smooth low recoil of the Gold sure tempts me every time I'm reaching for a shotgun.
