1911 Hand Cannon :The 460 Rowland

Just ordered one, should be in time for Christmas as a present for myself! I don't care for revolvers, but would like a magnum power auto and don't have the money or hands for a Desert Eagle. This may scratch the itch!

Well I looked at the Brownells site again, and now there's a note below the conversion kit that says it can't be shipped out of the USA. I'm pretty sure that wasn't there last time I looked. I guess the other site is getting some more money now.

Brownells has always not shipped these.

dosnt matter anyways, they have a supply problem and can not get a part they need for production for 6-8 weeks so all the kits ordered in the last month and all future order will have to wait until at least the end of Dec before they start up production again IF they can get the part they need and not have to find a new supplier.

sad face for Christmas fun now gone.

just to double update ya, when they say up to 3 weeks to ship they mean it.
im 2 weeks in and it hasnt even left their office yet.
if not by the end of the week that will be 3.
ill let ya know when it arrives.
Lucky you, I just ordered from 460rowland.com, and the site says they will start shipping late December. I wonder how many Canadian orders have been placed in the last few days or so.

That sucks. I figured I better order now and maybe I will get it around the same time I get powder. I wonder how blue dot would work in these, a little slower than longshot.

I.got an email a couple days ago from 460 Rowland saying that my order is going to be shipped within 10 days. Not quite as good as gun parts for Christmas, but I'll take it. I ordered 4 pounds of Long shot about a month ago and got an email that it shipped just before Christmas too. Should be some goodies waiting for me when I get home from holidays. Here's hoping the rest of you are having a good Christmas too.

Very nice. I'm going to put mine in a Norc too. I've had one of the Canada Ammo deal 1911's sitting in my safe unopened for over a year trying to decide what to do with it.

It's a plain Jane GI one on the left, but it will probably end up looking a lot like the one on the right when I'm done. That one started out as one of the Canada Ammo ones too and was my first attempt at working on a 1911.

Ok, we know where to get the brass and the kit.

Where do we get the reloading dies and bullets????

I may just have to score one of those $299 Norcs from CanadaAmmo for this!!!! (I wonder if they'll import kits, brass, bullets, and dies for us??)

Standard .45 Auto dies and bullets to load, only the brass is different.

I'm going to try some hard cast 200 grain semi wadcutters and some regular old 230 fmjs for mine when I get it. My other 1911 shoots great with the cast semi wadcutters loaded to IPSC major, hopefully they won't cause too much leading at Rowland velocities. I already have the stuff for reloading 45 acp. Either way, this should be fun.

Has anyone actually tested these claimed velocities from this cartridge?

It does seem a little far fetched.

I've fired plenty of .44-Magnum loads. Mostly revolvers. But a few Desert Eagle autos too.

The gun in the video did not look anything like a .44-Magnum being fired. (Where's the fireball?)

A fireball has nothing to do with the cartridge but more to do with the powder used. Most people use Longshot for 460 Rowland which has very little muzzle flash. And it doesn't seem at all far fetched.

Yes, well not the 460 Rowland just the 45-08 cartridge my friend Gunnar Christenson put me on to a few years back. Over my F! Chrono 10.5 gr of Longshot gave me 1300 FPS when under a 200 gr LSWC. I used my Norinco 5" with a 22# recoil spring. Recoil is about the same as I get shooting my GP-100 with warm 357mag loads. I had a fellow do up a couple hundred cases for me using .308 brass and life is good. Gunnar used to sell the brass for a $1.00 a piece. Fair price and an inexpensive way to get the power you want out of a semi auto you actually can carry. The Norinco's are excellent platforms for such cartridges due to the excellent steel frames and slides.
The load in question will bllow out a regular 45acp case so DO NOT LOAD IT IN A .45ACP CASE!

Take Care

Bob
