Even when they are clearly stamped 'MADE IN ITALY - BLACK POWDER ONLY'?

Some years ago, I had an antique ML rifle stolen and shortly thereafter, the Victoria police (70 miles to the south) put an announcement on the radio that a ML rifle had been found and they were looking for the owner. I phoned the detachment in the faint hope it was mine. Asked for the description of the gun (mine was reported and on file) and the police did not want to tell me. I said; at least tell me if it is modern or original, if it is modern, it is not mine. Oh I don't know, it only says Connecticut Valley Arms.
I rest my case
