I went back to the same farm that I setup the other day…. The other day I had a poor wind so I had to setup way too far from the bush, had 2 coyotes come out but wouldn't cross the 400 yd field…… So today…
I went back to the same bush but this time the wind allowed me to setup close to the bush. I typically setup between 120-150 yds from the main bush but today I couldn't find a nice spot to sit so had to get closer than I wanted….
It turns out it was a little too close because as I was setting up my ecaller/decoy about 80 yds from the bush and 30 yds from me……a coyote bolts up by the far end of the bush (250 yds) and runs across the field, no chance for a shot…..
Feeling that I may have ruined my chance I decided to try it anyway…. About 20 minutes into the set this coyote comes running straight into the field from about 200 yds away, stops about 100 yds away, lip squeak him a bit and with him honed in on the decoy, starts running hard toward it again…. I wait and when he is about 15 yds from the decoy about 50 yds from me, I wolf him…. He stops in his tracks, faces me and with one shot in the middle of his chest he is done, DRT …..
Took him over to the farmers place so they could have a look, everyone was impressed, including me….
