Shipping firearms and ammunition

A check with Purolator via their web site and was advised "No".

Attended to the UPS store And was told "Yes"

Took the package to the same store the next day and everything was go until I made the declaration and she panicked at the wore "Firearm"

She suggested the "Letter Lock" store which does business with a number of other couriers but that was also a "No"

To Canada Post today, and the lady at the counter knew on my arrival it was a firearm.

Where does everyone else go to ship firearms and who ships ammunition?

When I had ammunition shipped, Peter gets the best price but I have it dropped at a business and have not paid attention to who the courier is.

C.P. doesn't need to know it's a firearm.They won't ship ammo anymore. Trigger lock it in a locked case for full security.

Canada post will ship all your firearms no need to tell them what is in the parcel ,I always get the signature upon delivery .cost very little ..thy will not ship ammo ,it cost me a average of 30$ to ship a firearm anywere in Canada ,Dutch

Peter, from TSP, ships via purolator ($40 for 5000 rounds of .22) or canpar depending on who has the best price that day. Got a ring on the door bell yesterday and by the time I got up from CGN and walked 30 feet to the door there was a case of Eley sitting on the step and the truck was driving away !
Had a case of CCI delivered from a CGN sponsor from BC and delivery was $80 via canpar, they said they dont get a good rate because of low volume.

And how did she know it was a firearm upon your arrival? I think you had better package your guns differently before shipping.

I "receive" ammunition and firearms.

All of my ammunition, shipped from North Silva or Olin comes via Purolator - no issues, no problem - flagged/noted as hazardous or dangerous, but no restrictions.

All the firearms we receive (and almost always "dozens" at a time) come on DHL Express or Canpar.

Canpar takes it somewhat "more seriously" - on the waybill that they retain it is far more detailed and you have to sign every piece of paper related to the shipment. I remember a time many years back when Canpar was the "only" carrier that would handle ammunition in Canada.

DHL pulls into the dock, unloads and you give them an initial on the little electronic screen.

I "think" the actual regulations are not that tough but individual companies AND individuals that work for those companies just "assume" that there is some great restrictions in place and "just say no".

I suppose she has seen enough of my wood boxes . . . beyond that she is very perceptive. Perhaps paper punches and electrical equipment has worn thin.

C.P. is no problem for firearms. Canpar for ammo/powder/primers. Not sure of DHL or UPS but I know there is one other carrier that will take ammo. Most likely you will be charged a hazmat fee.

CanPar for ammo and Canada Post for firearms.
Follow the instructions on CP web site and you should have no problemos period.

I started working in the firearms industry in 1977 have shipped firearms with Canada post exclusively without incident 1,000's of of guns .

I ended up pulling the bullets from the loaded ammo, punching the primers and mailed the whole package via CP.

Will know in the future.

This is ONLY for corporate shippers/receivers... CanPar will not ship firearms for individuals, nor will UPS or FedEx. Canada Post, as bad as they are, are the only viable option for individuals... and "technically" you are supposed to declare firearms and ship regular parcel with signature required.

purolator ships ammo and firearms,in the atlantic provinces at least,to dealers.
the words to use as a description of a firearm you are shipping is......MACHINE PARTS.
