If you can get a variation on your FAC then go for it. With Trapdoor level loads they are great fun to shoot. 1895 Loads can push back a bit, but nowt a stout lad can't handle.
Are the French still uppity about hunting with military calibers? Last I saw the .45-70 was still on their proscribed list, but there was talk of them removing the older calibers from it. But it would make a great pig gun- you don't live in the Forest of Dean by any chance, do you?
I wouldn't hesitate using the .45-70 on fallow or sika or reds either, provided you keep the rainbow trajectory in mind. Might be overkill for muntjac, though.
