Jay thanks for that, its well used but could be a fun gun for the farm. There is also a new and unused one for £450 which will possibly do fairly well. This auction house gets lots of new in the box stuff and its usually from defunct dealer stock. I'll have a thunk and maybe make a bid before I go sausage side on sunday.
The only downside to bidding on sealed bid lots is that you can end up with everything you've bid on and scratching round for cash.
I'm a part time dealer from home, I do the auction circuit, buy and sell for friends, limited amounts of ammo and usually can be seen sending stuff off on sale or return to friends shops in the vain hope of breaking even!

If you can get a variation on your FAC then go for it. With Trapdoor level loads they are great fun to shoot. 1895 Loads can push back a bit, but nowt a stout lad can't handle.
Are the French still uppity about hunting with military calibers? Last I saw the .45-70 was still on their proscribed list, but there was talk of them removing the older calibers from it. But it would make a great pig gun- you don't live in the Forest of Dean by any chance, do you?
I wouldn't hesitate using the .45-70 on fallow or sika or reds either, provided you keep the rainbow trajectory in mind. Might be overkill for muntjac, though.

Might be less meat damage than with a high velocity cartridge. Not many Muntjac here yet in Sussex, I'll run it on my dealers ticket as under test before I decide on a variation. I need to fill some slots that have been there coming on 10 years so I don't lose them. I have the rifles in stock, just waiting for the right time.
Edited to add the French haven't formally announced the delisting of the older military calibres yet. Apparently only .308, 5.56 and 7.62 x 39 will remain. Fingers crossed so I can channel hop for piggies.
It was made in 1987 according to the serial number. The scope looks older though. Would be a good buy here if you can get it for less than 350.00 EUR. What it's worth over on your side of the pond I guess is the real question.
I could in theory get it for £105 as I would have to put in a bid for at least £5 more than the low estimate. Total then would be £136.50 not too shabby provided no one else is bidding on it! I would ditch the scope and put something decent on it!
It's a pistol grip style lever action. As compared to here, that's a rarer feature. Most that I see are the straight grip... Scope looks like a leopold. Don't chuck it right away... wish it had better pics...
