Cannot get base pin out of single action revolver

This is just a Reck but aren't they a copy of a Colt or something? Took the base pin,spring loaded latch right out as some said you need to do,instead of just pressing and holding it like a Ruger. The hammer is at the second notch so the cylinder rotates freely.The loading gate is open. But still,the base pin will only pull out a 1/4 of an inch,it seems to stop because of something mechanical.Ive been lubing and rotating the base pin. What could be holding it in?

If it has fired a few dozen rounds you probably have a buildup of crud varnished onto the pin. More force my get it out or load on the Hoppe's.

Thanks T&G,Ive got everything lubed. It seems like something mechanical stopping it. If I pull on it to hard Im scared I might break something,and since its a Reck,that would mean instant paper weight.

Varnish buildup occurs in Smiths to the point that it seems impossible to pull the cylinder off the crane, so don't dismiss the possibility. Lube won't do it, you need a good solvent.

Don't know if the mechanics of a Reck are similar to Uberti but I had the same problem with my new single action. I ended up locking it in a wooden vise with the retaining pin depressed, locked a pair of vise grips on the base pin and tapping with a rubber mallet. The pin was just very dirty.

Maybe see if you can find some dis assembly instruction before applying brute force ?.

Please don't use any vise grip pliers. Even if you pad the jaws to avoid marking the metal you risk bending the pin when tapping so far off center on the vise grips.

A better way to get the pin out is to strip the action out and use a pin punch through the hole for the pin in the frame just under the hammer. You can see this hole when you #### the hammer and you can access it with a pin punch once you've removed the hammer. And don't go nutz. A firm but gentle tap should be easily enough to push the pin out despite any amount of fouling buildup or even a burr on the metal. If the pin stops hard and firm then something else is at fault. Check to be sure that the head of the cylinder pin isn't ramming into the ejector housing.

Thanks,but I found a better solution. I traded it for a Ruger single nine
