Tavor or RA XCR-I need your thoughts on which and why.

I currently run a ar 15 that i built. My issue is I'm tired of a range gun. I hate I can't take it to my buddies property. So I'm tempted to sell my AR and put it into a Nr 5.56mm rifle. I've been doing a ton of reading on these guns but I want your help. I would like AR type controls something similar as I use a AR for work. I do love the Tavor compact.

So short list of what I want the rifle for.
Target/3 gun/self defense type stuff.
Hunting /varmint out doors

It would be my do it all gun. So any help on this be appreciated.
 
I own an XCR, at the time I bought it it was cheaper to get it and a scope, then to buy a plain jane tavor. Tavor is going down though, and I cant say I would make the same decision today. I really do enjoy my xcr though, and with a light barrel it balances nice (i would not use a heavy barrel one), and its plenty accurate for varmints.
 
I'm a pretty big guy at 6'6" and the Tavor felt completely wrong to shoot. The Tavor went out the door and the XCR came in. Waaaaaaay nicer to shoot.
 
If you get the xcr get the keymod with the light barrel. Its a totally different rifle than the front heavy older models that everyone rags on. I love mine. I was in the same boat as you a while back. I hate bull pups tho just my preference. No regrets with my xcr!
 
I have the older XCR with .223 & 7.62x39 barrels love the Gun.But if I was going to spend that type of money again I shop for something more accurate.Like Stormchaser mentioned the Bushmaster ACR.Just my view.

Yah thats the best option here, but youre oooking at 3500$, I have a tavor and an AR. honestly Im looking at an acr NR now. This restricted stuff is annoying and my AR loses its fun because of it.

The Tavor is fun but not something you want to be shooting 1 moa with, best i could run my tavor was 1.7 moa with a lot of sand bags and expensive hornady ammo.

My AR is ok, comfortable and I modded it the way I want but restricted is annoying.

Im looking at an ACR now, but funds are being stored for the expenses on my townhouse, so we will see where I am financially this summer and I'll decide then. I was thinking if getting a new acr, running it for like 6 months or so then sending it to Herron for a krieger NR barrel and reclassification.
 
The tavor is better designed and more reliable in my experience. The XCR has the ####tiest barrel retention system i've seen on a gun that costs 2k plus...
 
I have the new XCR-L, HB. Just popped a 100 rnds or so, out back of the house. 700 rnds so far , no failures. And the HB is not a problem.

While I love my tavor it is not an ideal 3 gun rifle. You have to load one or two rounds less per magazine in order to insert the mag on a closed bolt. Or shoot the mag empty and load it with the bolt. Both are not ideal when shooting competition as you only want to be loading while moving when it is time to shoot you want to be shooting not loading. I have seen people use xcr in competition, but they quickly bin it and go back to an AR.

So if 3 gun is an important consideration then I would suggest keeping your AR and getting whatever else that suits your fanvy.
 
I have no issues with loading 10 round ATRS mags in my tavor on closed bolt.

I have never shot an XCR so I can't comment on which to get.... I am however bias to the Tavor :)

I've tryed 5 or 6 diff ammo , 5 rnd groups at a hundred yards , most were 1 1/2 to 2 moa. The hornady 53g vmax was around the 1 moa. I haven't tryed recently as I'm waiting on some 53 vmax projectiles. Maybe it was just a lucky day, I don't know.And no re torquing or locktite , of any screws as of yet:)

What trigger you rocking? How do you find the controls? Is the barrel on Tavor a pencil, government profile? Hammer forged? Do you get the Tavor blow back?
 
There all the same , overpriced, reliable, get the job done guns. Neither of them is a tack driver, but for a .223 they'll do what they're capable of. At the end of the day , for me it was looks and style of gun. Of the 3 talked about here. I just got lucky and liked the XCR-L HB, sove some cash and it shoots excelent.

Good points.
 
Tavor.
Higher quality, more reliable, more compact, better balance, and more accurate.
Neither will let you pick off a coyote on the run at 400 yards. They are 2-3 moa rifles.
Nr acr is expensive, but as close as you can get to an ar in a non restricted platform.
