SA nm rear sight in M305 issue

As a footnote to this it would be good if people did not flog their take-off Norinco rear sight assemblies or components as Garand parts. These are soft and out of spec for use on a Garand. I've gotten stung with a few components under the label of Garand parts over the years. I just $hitcan them so no one else will ever need to deal with them.

the sights I show in my pics were purchased as a full NM set , from reputable CGN member spcamno......
not random pieced together "faux" NM sights
Looking at OP's pics, the sights he's fitting appear to be the same.
I think some folks aren't understanding the problem.... lots of helpful posts here but I doubt the issue is soft metal, mismatched parts, nor is is a issue with the sights threads.
it's a issue with the curvature of the sight base as it relates to the curvature of the receiver sight ears. the tolerances are just a hair too tight..... which really ..... should kinda be expected when fitting an NM tolerance part.

OP let us know how you make out.

that moose is pretty damn tasty that's all I know ;)
have a look at your receiver sight ears for wear marks, maybe yours is tight for the same reason as mine was? ya never know

She clicks real fine. I'd be depressed if my NM sight was all wiggly. I purchased a hooded aperture from Treeline as well and it needs to be stoned to fit properly. A tad wide to slide in the guide. When I do sit in the man cave that upcoming brisk -25 Sunday morning and file the angle on the 3 apertures I'll make it fit. Patiently, deliberately, precisely . Standard, NM and hooded NM. A plethora of choices. All at the twist of a knob.

Well here's a few pics to maybe confirm if we are indeed talking about the same sight.

Here is the Norc base(left) compared to SA (right)

Here is two pics showing the clearance difference between the two sight bases on the Norinco receiver sight ears. The SA base is definitely a tighter fit as 45ACPKING has been describing. It doesn't appear to be binding in my case yet when the SA sight is installed, it is locked up tight. No elevation or windage adjustments can be made without an adjustable wrench.

So as it stands right now, I have the SA windage knob, elevation knob and aperture installed with the Norc base and the rear sight is working well. (ie, the windage and elevation adjustments are working independently unlike the the Norc parts) This was the main reason for swapping out the parts to begin with although I was hoping to sell the Norc rear sight to offset the cost of the new sight. Oh well. Not sure I want to go to the lengths 45ACPKING went to.

hmmmm, looking at your pics, you have different sights than the ones I have.
the set I have is full NM. pinion, threads, aperture ect.
if your pinion and windage fit a Chinese base, then they are standard metric and perhaps just the aperture on yours is NM
in my situation it was very obvious that the base was binding and starting to lift as it was trying to ride over the sight ears during adjustments.
The ONLY way for me to fix this in my case was to make the modifications shown. I would guess that less than a millimeter of material was removed in order to stop mine from binding, a little more than a polishing. the sights are nice and tight as far as fitment and adjustments are positive with no lifting of the base when the windage is operated thru it's full range.

good luck and hope you get er figured out.

Yes as you can see the only part labeled "NM" is the aperture. The windage knob does have the finer adjustments as well though. From what I've found online, these are indeed the ones that came from Sprinfeild Armoury. I wonder if this is a case of them fitting on the Springfeild cast receiver as apposed to the Norc forged receiver. Hence my bad binding problem. Who knows at this point. As per my post #26, everything is working great with the Norc base, smooth windage adjustments and firm elevation clicks. Thanks for yours and everyone else's help with this.

I got my NM site from Keepshooting it is marked NM/2A on the right ear,NM on the right nob,& NM on the aperture I swapped out the aperture for a hooded NM [ fitting was required ] & a BM59 elevation nob from Treeline found I had to take a little off the back of the right receiver ear to stop binding turning to the right otherwise it fit perfectly on my 09 Poly Tech. love the fine adjustment it has.

One ? that I do have is where do you put you aperture/elevation nob to get a base line calibration on assembly?

I bottom out the elevation then click up around 12 clicks to sight in at 100. At this point it doesn't matter what the elevation knob is reading at. Couple clicks either up or down after a few 3 round strings to get on target, then loosen the elevation knob while holding the aperture and turn the now loose elevation knob to 100 and retighten. I think that's what you were asking. Lol
