picked this shotgun up for $220 cant seem to find to much info on it, I sorta just liked it and seized the moment, anyone know if I got my moneys worth or not, lol, it is a good shooter, have put several rds through it. sorry pics are not very good, I will try and get better ones, all I do know is its a fn sxs 12 guage one barrel mod choke and one ? I don't have too much more info, barrels are 29 7/8" FN printed fancy on the rear of the butt, stock is in good shape, barrels are decent outside, bore is very good, lock up tight, some engraving, reads FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE HERSTAL BELGIQUE

thanks gunsaholic, it is quite a bit nicer than my sh1t pics appear, I really need a decent camera, I couldn't resist, sucker for a cool gun, camera not so much, lol

I have ran about 30 rds through it, mechanically flawless and tight.

How does it handle? I have a Belgian Masquelier boxlock that is a very nice handling and pointing gun.

it definitely has a good feel, one of the things I loved before I even shot it, it seems nicely balanced and smooth, I am actually going to shoot a rd of trap for sh1ts and giggles with it next time I go {and its not -20 out}

Your gun is before 1924. Might want to make sure that it has 2 3/4" chambers.
Yup , easy enough
to check with a socket that just fits and an extension
slide it in and check the depth
Some Guys check with s longer shell, like 3" shell for sure it's 2 3/4 chamber or a 3.5" it is a 3"
I prefer to measure them
Cat

thanks guys I will measure it,i have been shooting 2 3/4 through it, never crossed my mind to shoot any 3" and def not steel, I cant seem to find out just how old it is, there is very little info anywhere on these guns that I can find.
would they be Damascus barrels?

Good score, Westarm!

Its guns of that nature that allow me to play in the world of decent quality side by sides. With patience and some of knowledge of what to look for (the learning never ends) its amazing what treasures you can find! You can have champagne guns on a beer budget :)

would they be Damascus barrels?

We need better pics to see if they are damascus barrels. Is there a visible pattern to them? When I suggested measuring the chambers it wasn't because I was implying that you might be able to shoot 3" shells. I meant the chambers might be for 2 1/2" shells. Even though the gun has smokeless proof marks, I would be leery of shooting today's heavy loads through it even if the chambers are 2 3/4".

I so far have stuck to target loads, I am not very knowledgeable at all on old shotguns, I thought maybe they might be Damascus just because of the age so I certainly didn't want to shoot anything too heavy through them.

lesson # 2 I just learned from you is 2 1/2" shells, lol, didn't know they existed, that's why I thought 2 3/4 was safe for sure, I did just measure a 3" shell will fit so 2 3/4 is definitely safe, I will measure the chamber exactly tomorrow

Yup, lots of good low pressure smokeless loads on the market for sure, the kent INTL skeet diamond loads in 8.5 shot are 24 grams and about 7,500PSI IIRC, and one can hand load any number of ways with low pressure wads and powder combinations.:>)
It's not too clear, but it looks like a lion over the PV which would designate smokeless powder, but it would be nice to get a better look at the receiver marks

A good quality double for a bargain price. FN was and is one of the most respected gun makers on the continent and they did not make any junk. Personally even if it were marked 76mm chambers(3 inch) I wouldn't use them, beat you senseless and loosen the action up to no purpose.

my thoughts exactly, great to have lots of good feedback.
