How many mags

Sorry if this was posted before but I couldn't find anything. I'm wondering how many loaded magazines a person is allowed to have on them while hunting. This question has come about as I just purchased a su-16, and one mag just doesn't cut it. Now I've hunted all day and not fired a shot with my bolt action, but there have been times when I've emptied the clip in 20 minutes. While trying this new rifle I can see that one mag is gonna be a pain

Any number as long as, if a semi auto, they are factory made/pinned to only 5 rounds each. Am I correct? I'm not even sure what a SU 16 is. Is it non-restricted?

Yep, it's non-res, some kind of plastic contraption made by kel-tec
And it takes ar15 magazines, so there are 10rd pistol magazines that fit it.

What are you hunting that requires so much ammo? The most I have ever shot was 3 rds and that was at 3 separate coyotes...

I very rarely use all 5 rounds, as the most I've ever seen is a lone coyote at a time, but it would be nice to carry an extra

If there are pistol magazines that fit wouldn't that give this a restricted classification? Please excuse my ignorance as Ive only had my firearms license a little over a year

What mags a rifle can use does not determine the classification. The JR Carbine is a non-res rifle and uses glock mags.

The LAR and Beuwolf mags holding 10-15 are legal in a non restricted rifle for trapsing in the woods. HOWEVER, check your provincial hunting regs for mag capacity. Even though the mags are legal for plinking in the woods, they may be illegal for use when actually hunting if they have more than 5. CO hunting regs supercede gun regs....I think?

How many total magazines ? or how many rounds allowed in a magazine ? Cause you can carry more magazines then Rambo if you wish because you can only have one magazine in your gun at a time so as long as the magazines are within the legal limit of rounds.

Not sure where you are in Canada but here are the Alberta Hunting Regulations http://www.albertaregulations.ca/huntingregs/genregs.html#biggame Basically for big game the max is 5 rounds and for migratory birds its 3 rounds max

I'm in Newfoundland. I own a mossberg 715t as well and when they released the 715p the 25 round mag became prohibited. Wouldn't that be the same kind of deal? I have read nothing about plinking in our regulations, I guess I'll have to check it out but I think our mags are supposed to be pinned at 5 regardless

Please do research before passing around disinformation. I believe lar 15 mags are covered in #4

It literally is the first link after searching for "lar 15 magazine Canada"

If the OP is looking to carry a lot of LAR mags, that suggests to me he's going after varmints, not big game. I know that the .223 round is (or was) illegal in BC and Alberta for big game.

Sorry if I rubbed a nerve there but how am I supposed to learn if I don't ask. Maybe I'm not as technology savvy as you are, and your link lead me to an error 404. I tried posting a pic of the page but I don't know how

Shredder you are absolutely correct, I have never hunted big game always critters. Sometimes I make 2 or 3 stands when I go hunting in that day. But I have made as high as 15 stands if I have the time. With the wife and kids I don't always get that kind of time. But I have had to reload with animals right in front of me and that's the reason for the semi auto purchase. And when it comes right down to it if I can hit the mag release and PPP in another that would be great. That's the question I asked and as one poster said I can carry as many as Rambo as long as they are pinned
