Has anyone used this ammo in a SKS rifle? I would imagine it works as it should but I am more interested in how it feeds in a Russian SKS rifle.
Thanks, Darryl
Please advise if this should be in the ammo section. I think it kind of applies here.

I use their pointed soft points in my SKS without issue. Clean burning and very accurate. That is the first time I've seen their round nose ammo. If I were a betting man, I would say it will work fine. Buy a box and test it. The worst thing that can happen is you can sell it on EE to somebody with a bolt action chambered in the same.

Where'd you find it? TradeEx just seems to have the Pointed Soft Points. I'm not sure I'd want to fire it out of my SKS, but it would be worth a go in my Zastava - at least to try a box or two for grouping.

PPU is generally, IMHO, among the higher quality ammo you can get for the East Block calibres. Blows the socks off Barnaul, as a rule.

I would agree that it is amongst the best hunting ammo in the caliber - but the stuff I used was pointed soft point PRVI stuff. Really nice brass too.

I haven't hunted with that stuff but I did a water jug test the bullet went to pieces and I never found anything but fragments . I wouldn't hunt with it .

A ballistic gel test would likely represent game flesh better than a water jug but at least the jug test has been done. I guess I will just get some and let all of us know if it is good or not for function in the SKS. As for use on deer, black bear and moose calves that will have to wait till later in the year.

Those Hornady steel cased 7.62x39 with SST is about the best hunting ammunition you will get for the SKS. It costs $30 a box but a box is 50 rounds not 20. That stuff shoots very well out of a CZ 527 Carbine. The best I've seen for 7.62x39. It even stinks just like surplus 7.62x39.

I used that same round with no problems on a ~80 yard shot on a mule deer doe.
The brass is second to none, non-corrosive premer and powder.

Yes - it does have a very simple copper jacket/lead soft point design - so it isn't a premium bullet like a Nosler Partition, Barnes or A-Frame but for 100-200 yard shots with good placement it will do the job.

I shot the deer with a CZ858.

This company makes several military loads in a hunting round and I have used their ammo to shoot deer with an M1 Carbine, M1 Garand and K98.

All shots were within 100-200 yards with open sites and one shot kills.

You know.
Its pretty odd that stores like Cabelas / wholesale do not carry just plain old Federal Blue-box 7.62x39mm Ammo. or any standard brand 7.62x39mm hunting ammo (winchester ect all make their own partition like version).
For a gun thats pretty much in every household you would think they could try at least.

Federal Blue-box comes with their very common soft point which i think is just a nosler partition (proven reliable bullet) , Then looking at ballistics the rounds they make are zipping along at 2350 fps MV pretty much flat out to 200 yards with only 5" fall off @ 250 Yards.

Which tbh is what most people shot max range at anyhow when hunting deer or at least that would be about the furthest i tried to bring down a animal with a SKS anyhow considering their accuracy and even then these rounds would have to be much better than the surplus i shoot for me to go past 100 Yards with it.

x2 Very good round, I've personally used it on several coyotes, and a friend of mine used it on a deer. Good round, great ballistics, great price. 'Nuff Said
