Reloading with the wrong powder. (graphic)

My wife and I saw a guy blow up his bolt action rifle doing this exact thing on a range once. He was a bit luckier though and only caught some splinters from the wooden stock in his cheek....craziness.

posted many times before , but a good reminded every time it gets posted.. as safe as fire arms are, people need to remember they were designed for a certain pressure and pressure curve, 50k+ PSI bang going off inches from my face isnt something to be taken lightly

Complacency. They looked similar and in his inattentiveness he grabbed the wrong one. Good for him for posting. He could have kept his mouth shut and saved a lot of ego bruising from keyboard warriors.

Stuff like that can be prevented and it does happen and it won't be the last time it happens either. I like to keep the actual powder I am working with on my bench (as well as primers and bullets) all others are stored away.

Although he probably doesn't feel like it, he was very fortunate. Imagine if he had made that mistake in a round loaded into a Bullpup.

I have see a number of blown up rifles. None were mine. The most common cause was the powder thrower getting dumped into the wrong can.

Easy to do if you use ball pistol powder and ball rifle powder.

I guess on the positive side, it was a Savage that was destroyed.

You obviously don't know much about current Savages. I have a Savage in 204 Ruger a model 12 LRPV Left Port that will shoot 5 shot dime sized or smaller groups all day at 100 yards. Most accurate rifle by far out of many similar varmint style rifles I own. Savage Accu -Triggers are the best stock triggers out there.

I'm sorry, but if you can't tell the difference between Titegroup and Varget you're a moron.

Some people really should not reload in the first place. If you are not a detail person, slightly on the anal side, then do yourself and others around you a favor and just buy ammunition. I have actually discouraged some people from getting into reloading based on what I know about them.

Or if you don't trust yourself completely you can get coloured paper and wrap the bottles for pistol/shotgun/rifle powders. Someone else in the other thread on this topic wanted the powder makers to do that for them.

Eagleye, I know from reading your posts that you know your stuff. Why do you call the accutrigger crap? Are you just to set on old things like Remington triggers...with the millions of recalls and a seven pound pull.

I like the accutrigger, I'm not preaching its the best or anything though. Have placed well in FTR matches with them and they've never accidently gone off or been recalled...yet.
