Aftermarket stock for Ruger M77 Hawkeye???

Hey, I just bought a Ruger M77 Hawkeye All-Weather in 30-06 and while I love the action and barrel I am not crazy about the stock. For me it is quite thin in the pistol grip and the fore-arm but I can deal with it for a while. I know down the road I am going to want to replace it with something else. So I am wondering what my options are here in Canada for a "drop in" ready synthetic or fiberglass stock?

I want it to be a sporter weight stock and NOT a Mcmillan or thumbhole bench style stock. I will be carrying it hunting for moose and deer so if I could keep the weight as close to my factory rifle as possible that would be great. I'd like it to be black or black with grey spiderwebs or something like that so it looks nice with my stainless steel action and barrel. I need it to come with a good recoil pad and sling swivel studs already installed. As for full length pillar bedding or not ill have to see what the prices are for each. I have felt the hogue overmolded stock and while I do like the rubbery non slip feel I dont like how thick and spongy the rubber is, just doesnt feel right on a rifle to me. What I am saying some texture to the stock is nice but if its a good quality synthetic thats cool too.

I would like this to be a drop in ready stock for the Ruger M77 Hawkeye Long Action, I dont want to sand or file anything. What are my options here in Canada? Thanks
 
Haha, A Few mnths ago iw as frantically searching for a Synthetic stock for a Ruger mk2..

My options in Australia were slim, I couldn't really order from American webstores, which seemed to have the Better (more expensive) stocks to suit.

I was on CGN flat out an had some Generous Hunters offer to help out but due to Rules of the World regarding Rifles/Stocks/Parts etc there was loopholes but either the Store wasn't prepared to jump through it, Also I didn't really want to put the Bloke helping me in any sort of trouble.


So, with you being in Canada you are automatically Winning!


Now I would of loved your LA synth standard Stock :)

Although I went with the lower end of the Spectrum in regards to Quality and Bragging rights, I purchased a Ramline...

I think you are going to be rather limited with what you are chasing, I think the options are on the higher end for lightweight materials IIRC.




It now sits proudly on the Whelen an takes anything I throw at it so far.. think I paid $100 in Aus.

You basically cut-off any options... you don't want a MacMillan, or a Boyd's or a Hogue... that's why you are getting no responses. I don't agree with your preference criteria regarding the Hogue's... I think you felt their low-end stocks and passed judgment... I have a Hogue M77 stock with full aluminum bedding block and it is excellent and feels neither thick nor spongy. Also, Boyd's has three or four excellent field designs that are not bench or thumbhole stocks.

I am not saying I want to rule out MacMillan as a company I just dont want any benchrest style stocks or thumbhole stocks, I only know that pistol grip style benchrest as a "Macmillan style". I am open to any company and yes my previous experience is with Hogues cheaper $140 offering, it just felt very spongy is the best word I could use to describe it. As far as the paddle stock I think I would keep the current Ruger stock before I went that route, I like the looks of mine better. Im looking for an upgrade without adding too much weight. Need it to be sporter style and maybe a monte-carlo design they seem to fit me well. Thanks

Bed an aluminum rod down the full length of available forend... for this you can use bedding compound or just a black two part epoxy... it will stiffen up the factory stock without adding a lot of weight. IMO the Ruger synthetic is the best synthetic stock, in that price bracket, from any company.

McMillan sells more than just bench rest stocks and thumbhole stocks:)puke:). Here is a Ruger in a McMillan:



 
I appreciate the fact that this stock still has the Ruger dark/faded-red butt pad. A nice gesture ...

And a fine looking rifle ... :)
