Hey guys I am interested too .. can you guys post some pictures for all of on the fence guys ?
OK, get off the fence and order one!
Picked up the rifle this morning. They didn't have the crate of ammo there. (called me about 45 minutes after I got home with the rifle..........ammo's in).
Anyway.............I got a 1942 Izhevsk. The receiver stamping is a bit faint, but can make out the date and Izhevsk stamp. Any parts that I checked really closely had the Izhevsk stamp. Trigger guard/magazine assembly is lined-out and restamped with serial number. I think the trigger guard assembly is a Tula (star stamp by front guard screw).
The bayonet serial # matches the rifle and goes on and off easily.
The wood is in nice shape, no big dents or gouges. Shellac all over the metal parts (scraped off easily with my thumbnail).
I shot some brake cleaner down the bore and have the bore full of Wipeout right now. I'll let you know how it turns out, but it looked pretty good already. Strong rifling and just a tiny, tiny hint of frost in the bore. I may spend some time doing the bore with some JB Borebright, just have to see.
So, if you were thinking about getting one, I'd say "go for it"
Almost forgot, I got 2 pads of targets and the usual M-16 teeny pen in the shipping box.
Here are some pictures. I took them as soon as the rifle was out of the box. Before cleaning.
