Hi Guys,

Just a quick question, I keep flirting with the idea of getting a 17 WSM, but wish there were more manufacturers adopting it. I could easily surpass the 17 HMR, but only if manufacturers chamber rounds for it. Cheapest entry is the Bmag (to my knowledge), which doesn't have the great feel that Savage's other rimfires do, which makes me sad. Otherwise, it's all very expensive rifles.

Could this become the next 5mm?

Chime in!

I think it will?

Two more manufacturers of ammunition Hornady and Federal have started supplying this year. I don't think they would have invested in this if it wasn't profitable.

I would expect to see more manufacturers bring out new rifles shortly. Would like to see CZ or Ruger bring a rifle to the table.

just wait until the shot show is open. Surely more will hop on board, even with HMR rifles. Surly Winchester should have a decent bolt rifle this, after all, it is their cartridge. I know Winchester offered a rimfire bolt in Europe a year ago. Maybe Savage and Remington as well?

What was the rimfire bolt action?? Got some pictures?

only if more manufacturers start producing a bolt rimfire to compete with savage

I really want one, but every time I handle one, I just can't buy it...considering a bull barrel in a body's stock maybe

Well if savage didn't blow it with the Bmag that would have helped, and the fact that I have finally seen WSM in stock in quantity at a Canadian tire for the first time, its to early to call. Im sure Winchester ruger and maybe even Mossberg might try to build one, but the advertisement on the ammo is that tis the only rimfire cartridge that can drop a 'yote until we get more common and confirmed kills its still in the early stages, why would you buy a new round when your just using it for plinking when you can do just about the exact same thing with an .17 HMR why justify the expense. Give it time the 5.56 wasn't exactly well received at the start and look at it now.

If this thing gets an NR status and drum mag, I want it!

That has "RCMP designated as a Variant" all over it. Even if there are no parts that will interchange with an actual AR.

Unfortunately.

Kinda a chicken/egg thing. If the ammo is available, guys will still shop for he guns. if the guns are available, guys will shop for the ammo. Right now, the ammo seems sketchy, and the supply of rifles too. Hard to get enthused! Spotty results reported from the guys that DID buy in, don't make for much confidence either.

Cheers
Trev

Those that bought one voted, "YES." Those with a 20K stash of HMR ammo, voted "NO."

I'm interested in a WSM, but not until something decent comes out, SHOT show is next week, so everything hinges on that for me. I'd heard what a piece of junk the Bmag is, and wanted to look at one, the counter guy at Cabelas wouldn't even show me a rifle saying it was garbage.

I've got a 591M in 5mm that I'm considering converting to a WSM single shot with a Lilja barrel, but waiting to see what I can buy instead.

I think it would be neat if they would offer 5mm, .22, and I think even a .25 would work on that case. Give a bit of diversity to the round and more selections for rifles that need a specific action to function with it.

I am neither and voted no. The problem here was that the 3 places carried the B Mag but could not get the ammo. The day the ammo finally came in all the rifles sold out and half the ammo. Now they will not order more rifles because they sit on the shelf to long. So now we have ammo sitting on the shelf and no rifles to buy. It's a great round the 22 Hornet of the 21st century but it will not outlast unless someone comes out with a really easy to use and well designed rimfire reloader.
