Unfortunate M1A failure.

At his point if nothing is under warranty he has a few options and only has to replace the reciever from what i've read their was no other damage.

Indeed it will have to be replaced. Maybe he can get a Norinco one, they are supposedly stronger. Either way, lucky he wasn't hurt.

A forged receiver will always be stronger than a cast receiver, yet a quality cast receiver with proper heat treating will do the job as evidenced by many thousands of heavy recoiling rifles that Sturm Ruger has produced on cast receivers over the years.

It is my understanding that when the Browning Hi Power was released in 40 s&w that the forged frames were cracking. The problem was solved by switching to a cast frame?

If I were him, I'd go with a complete barrelled action from JRA and take the rest of his parts to complete the kit. He was having accuracy issues with his barrel and was never able to dial it in, despite the SAGE and a good scope.

Tony.

I'll say one last thing. I'm not trying to troll you folks LOL
Just because any of you own or choose to buy an M1A doesn't cause me to sit here thinking any less of you. I really don't care what rifle people choose to buy, shoot or own.
I don't really have a favorite brand of M14 either although if the real 12/3 M14 rifles in Canada ever come off the prohib list.... I'd trade my custom 5000.00 LRB M25 or maybe it's fully loaded norinco cousin for a couple VG+ condition genuine usgi versions and call it a day.
From now on tho , I'm going to photo document every issue I personally find with the springers that cross my path so I can provide a correct basis for my more than obvious bias.
The root of which is my disgust in the high price tag of rifles that I feel aren't worthy of it given the things I've seen.

Does that $5000 include the scope and mount? If it does I will surpass that number.

nice sentiment, but look at the label on the clothes you wear, the products in your household, the parts on your vehicle, then tell me about your boycott. the truth hurts.

Well I have a Merican truck, and a 40 year old stereo that still outperforms the garbage they sell now. If I had my way I would pay more for items made in the Western world. Tired of $100 DVD players that last a year. The truth don't hurt, it sets you free.

..... I'm still torn between an S&B or a sightron..... so no it doesn't include an optic, mount is included with the M25 rear lug receiver (and non lugged) and I opted for the long rail so that was an extra.... I just shoot with irons for now.
surprising how fast a build can add up when one uses new (old stock) usgi parts, SEI built trigger groups, Krieger barrels and on and on LOL
necessary? probably not but I wanted the best of everything hehehe
we might not all agree on many facets of the m14 platform but we can all agree that it is fricken addicting

Looks like a crude take down model.
Not much of a gun for the big $$$ they are asking for them.
I have owned a few of the M1As over the years, but I prefer my old H&R M14s over my M305.

Thanks Frank, I wish I could have stayed longer too. I know Thomas has said he has retired but if he ever wants to do a hunt/clinic like that again I am interested for sure. I wonder what we can do to positively influence him into doing another ;)

you guys are far too kind ;)
I dunno about future clinics.... I was asked by a few guys if I would offer up my place again and team up with TT this summer for a 100 mile clinic round 2 but he hasn't contacted me so my guess would be that it ain't happening. If I see some free time in this seasons fall hunting schedule, I'll do an invite only event and will contact those lucky folks if/when I decide. gonna be a very busy next 6 months or so as I've gone back to my trade after sitting on the side lines for 15 years or so due to pelvis injuries. I'd rather stay at home and work on m14 rifles and make custom stocks but it can't pay me even close to what my trades qualifications bring hehehe
back to hobby only with my m14 fun and truthfully, I'm rather enjoying myself these days ;)

Just when I start to miss the M14 world a thread like this comes along and reinforces my decision to walk away........

The "Golden days" are over it is true, but there are still new fans coming on board all the time that need questions answered,
even though the answer is usually available in the stickies. It has been a while since I could actually say"I never heard that question before",
and the Norinco vs M1A debate still goes on ad infinitum....like sports fans arguing about whose team is superior! We all have in common one thing though, a passion for the platform.
