Does anybody remember when Glocks were over a thousand bucks?

There are still Austrian made slides.
Yes, but "country of origin" is still USA for NAFTA purposes. It's like cars from European and Asian makes that are assembled in USA. They may have a German or Japanese made engine but there is still no import duty on them.

I remember those days, than a year or two later Questar started importing them for $599! thats back when hey were were small and just starting out.

Just bought my first Glock, a Glock 22 (fixed sights, 3 mags and std speed loader) for $749 from Frontier Firearms. They're $50 lower than the other on-line stores that I've been checking around.

I had no idea they went for that much, holy. I remember Colt M4 (LE6920) were going for about $2,500 not that long ago, some joker on EE had a pair of them up for 2 years and 30+ bumps, haha! Looks like he finally took them down.
I remember him..... At one time I sent him a link to the Irunguns website so he can see that they were 999$ new and he was asking 2500$ lol

I recall wanting to buy a Glock 17 in 2005 and my budget was 1000. I don't think many places could go that low. I wonder if Glock prices will creep up again with the weakened CDN dollar.

Absolutely. I remember buying a Glock 17 back in '96~'98 and the price tag on it was something ridiculous like $1099 before taxes (maybe even $1199?) it was a lot.

I also remember restricteds when bought had to then be driven to the RCMP detachment and left there for a month before being able to take it home.

The one good thing about the registry was that it eliminated that goofy procedure (of course at the cost of all guns being registered the same way - which was shorter than the month wait at RCMP detachment.)

I first got into firearms I think around '95, just before that stupid bill C-68.
I missed a bunch of awesome prohib'd opportunities which I regret to this day (I remember handling a Glock 19 in store as well as a bunch of nice 4" wheel guns.)

Le Sigh.

So, your point is what? By US import laws some parts can be made overseas and brought in to the US to be assembled into finished products without being classified as foreign made and therefore exempt from duties. That's why Glock built a facility in Georgia to begin with.
