Anyone know what this is?

that does look like an export mark, except in the US it also include the name of the importer.

I warned it might happen in my stickies but removed the statements after a few years when there weren't any sign of it happening.

the export marking is suppose to "to shut down the grey markets that outfit terrorists and criminals with firearms".

so with the recent terrorist acts in paris , don't be too surprise this will become the norm.

in term of affects on value, at this point no effects but decades down the road when the supplies runs out or something to stop imports, the non stamp will fetch a higher value. its like do you want a hot ###y girl that has no birth mark or one with birth mark ? lol .

Usually the u.s put import markings like that on milsurps. Canada doesn't.
please correct me if I'm wrong.

They're starting to become the norm before leaving the export countries now too. I think the issue is they need to be marked before some European countries will allow them to travel through their borders to reach the boat that brings them to us. But I could be misinformed.....

It is my understanding that the Russian Federation is blocking the export of military surplus firearms. If the thing is refurbished, and marked, it isn't military surplus any longer.
No doubt this is because of pressure from the UN, etc.

My research indicates this is a real sniper, and the reputation of the gunner I bought it from is undisputed, so even if the Russians marked it, I still like it and feel it can only increase in value, particularly if the Russians are looking to block exports. It was a good buy, I think.

yup , that's what I had in my stickies .

No doubt this is because of pressure from the UN, etc.

im glad to hear the Russian makes an effort to locate the stamp that is not so visible , in the US its located mostly on the side of the receivers or on the side of the barrels .

I have a 53 hardwood sks with the same mark on the barrel under the gas tube.

"KO" indicates its no longer mil-surplus but a "hunting" rifle as per Russian laws. I don't thing its an export marking because its need to be there to be sold in Russia itself (at list "KO" and caliber portion). Diamond shape logo looks like Molot factory refurb mark. As per value not sure about Mosins but SKS's tend to loose value (its pretty much states its a refurb - not collectors grade, ones again that's for SKS's)

My M38 has the same tattoo.

I dont see it when I shoot.

I have a 38/38 with the same marks. Was told by 2 serious milsurp collectors who are CGNers that the export marks detracts from the collector value. Mine was also hidden under the front hand guard. So now I know I have a refurbed shooter and not collector piece even though it has the rarer 38 stock.
