Hi guys,

Has any one Tried putting a 12" NEA Gen 2 free floating Rail with a 12" barrel and then added on a muzzle device like the noveske kx3?

The kind of looking I'm trying to achieve with my AR is to have the muzzle device and guard look like this. (ignore the rest of the gun)

Please ignore this is from an airsoft site, it was just where I could find a .png photo.

I currently am running a 12.5" NEA heavy barrel with low pro gas block, and a 9" gen 2 Free floating rail.As much as I would like to stay with the 9" rail and achieve the shorter barrel rifle, it seems like I cant find a barrel that is about 9" will allow the Kx3 to be slightly obscured by the end of the rail.

Has any one tried this before in our community or have any thoughts between the 9" vs 12.5" barrel? Keeping in mind this will be a paper puncher and probably used to start competing in CQB and 3gun matches locally.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Well it shot great actually. The only thing I didn't like was that it was front heavy. It had a heavy barrel. With a lightweight barrel It would have been much better. I could've gone with a 12" rail too. It would've still been out over the kx3. Picked the rail up off the EE. The Dlask clone is just as good as kx3 for less $$. I have one for my 7.5" vz58

Yes I would do this build again but with a lightweight barrel.

This is what I have mine looking like so far. Just currently undecided if it's better to go short like a 9" barrel to match the handguard or just get a 12" handguard to match the barrel.

If your thinking eventually Matches or 3-Gun it's probably best to stick to your 12" bbl for accuracy purposes.

What does bbl length have to do with accuracy?

Was just making a suggestion and comment based on the OPs' original idea of 3-Gun/CQB matches down the road. Wasn't sure why they would want to drop down to a shorter barrel length, when most rigs used fall into that 12"-16" range typically. Probably a bad explanation/play on words on my part in replying there. My bad.

It's a 10.5" bbl with noveske KX5, under a CMMG 11" Keymod rail.

Thanks for all the opinions and help guys. I really like the look of this, and my shopping list keeps getting bigger. The 12" barrel might yealed some better velocities pushing out to a further range but I feel between 9"-12" the quality of ammo and a stiff barrel might be the bigger deciding factory on accuracy.

Does the KX5 actually effect muzzle rise or any thing to the barrel? Or is it more of just a flash hider?

Neither - it really just drives the blast forward and is supposed to increase the dwell time of the pressure curve to aid in reliability - but most of the reliability issues with short AR's were solved ages ago. There are devices available that do better with blast and flash, as well as control recoil - the Ferfrans and Gem Tech Blast Jacket are two.
