POA-POI for SAA .45 LC 5.5 barrel? Update.

Just wondering if there's a optimum distance from the target for POA -POI for this gun? At 10'yrds POA -POI was with the very tip of front post. At 25 yrds it was somewhere in the middle of the post. Should I file the front post ,so POA -POI is good for 25yrds?

Individualized for the shooter, zero the sights for your preferred distance.

They typically shoot high as they were sighted for longer distances from the factory and the reproductions usually mirror this.

Ya, my Pietta 1860 Army with a 45 colt conversion cylinder shoots a good 6" high at 10M. Haven't figured out what to do about that yet?

I'm not an expert by any means but to break in my holsters I typically seat the pistol correctly, close the holster and leave it in there while it is legal to do so (at home, cleaning my guns, etc). This will cause the leather to conform to the shape of the pistol eventually. Do some drills as well, don the holster and practice unholstering and holstering as that process will break the holster in. You can also improve your draw and learn how to keep your finger off of the trigger and the muzzle in a safe direction as part of this practice.

Change the sight alignment so that it shoots closer to your desired POI or get a smith to install a taller front site post as a taller front sight will lower the POI.

It's not a post, it's a blade. Haven't found a higher replacement anywhere!!! Tried making one but that didn't work out all that well.

I'm shooting a 250 LFN over 4.7gn of W231.

Try shooting a lighter bullet (185-200) faster. Try 7.5 to 8 gr of W231 and see what happens.
Then try shooting it with that same 4.7 gr of W231 and see what happens.

Umm no I am not. Sorry, never had one of those. But generally speaking the less recoil impulse you have, the lower the shot will impact.
Then again you have to factor in the time the bullet is in the barrel. Its all too hard to do. Just have fun. Aim low. LOL

Haven't tried 20 yds. The Pistol bay is 25 yds and I have only tried 1/3 of that.
Have to aim at the bottom of a target to hit the center of the target. A good 6 to 8 inches high for sure.

I doubt there will be any factory option out there. A qualified smith should be able to machine a replacement though, it can be jb welded or silver soldered onto the barrel if there is no dovetail slot.

The common home remedy is to file the rear notch a little deeper (take your time and go slow, may help a couple of inches) or to make the new sight out of brass stock, as it's easy to work with as it's softer and doesn't require a lathe or anything like that.

At 25 yards it didn't hit the 10 inch target. I had to use about half the front sight.i assume it was hitting low.

Like would you want a fine sight at 25yrds , aim high for greater distances. I can probably remove have my post , to have a fine sight, for 25yrds.this was with 250g cartridges. ... Elmer Keith had gold inlays in his front sight post for known distances. Or maybe it was just gold paint but it worked for him.

I may have to resort to filing the hammer notch. Need to check if my spare parts kit includes a hammer first.

Have you ever looked for brass shim stock? It doesn't exist! I tried making a front sight from a piece of brass door hinge. That didn't work all that well.
