Why isn't most bulk 223/5.56 62 grain?

Tell me if I'm wrong here, but isn't 99% of the 223/556 ammo that is consumed by the general public shot out of an AR (or equivalent military style gun)? And aren't most AR barrels one in seven or one in nine twist? And isn't 62 Grain supposedly much more accurate from a one in seven milspec barrel than a 55 grain?

So why is almost all the Bulk 223/556 out there 55 grain? Am I missing something?
 
No idea.
I'm assuming maybe because if you're a company and you want to reduce overhead, you tool up to pump out a metric ton of cheap bulk ammo every hour or so.
You know the people who buy bulk junk ammo (especially .223) tend to just dump rounds down range at 2 meters playing rambo or whatever.
Why have more than one assembly when you can just pump out .223 in 55gr and then every single semi auto can shoot it regardless of barrel twist?
One production line, one nature, one packaging type, less overhead and more profit in the end.
That's just my 100% factless or evidence based assumption.
I don't mind. My M16A1 clone has a 1:12 pencil barrel and loves the stuff :rockOn:
 
55 grain is cheaper when you are dumping large quantities of ammo downrange during drills and classes that is typically 100 yd or less and hitting any where on the silhouette it the only accuracy requirement.

My Colt 20" 1:12 pencil barrel throws 62gr FMJ sideways tumbling at 100 meters!
It shoots 55gr into 2.5" groups with ease at the same distance!
Some 1:12 barrels will actually stabilize 62gr past a certain distance but mine apparently is not one of them lol :(
 
62 gr Lake City is less stable than 75/77 HPBT out of a 1 in 9 according to our favorite Ballistician. I doubt you'd have good results unless it was a stupid hot day or you were at a fairly high elevation in anything under 20" barrel length...and yes I'm sure someone will have had great results at sea level at -20.

I have never heard that, in fact it is contrary to everything I know and have seen.
