Will last the coming zombie apocalypse?

You just happen to be in your local Pronature (free plug to local pro shop) and the zombie hordes start shambling in the streets.

You can only grab a HUNTING rifle. Not an ak-47 or a famas or something like that. Think rem 700.

And no shotguns.

What do you grab off the shelf? Make and calibre?

ATRS in 50 BMG and then wait for all the zombies to line up for that one perfect shot align their heads by height into the ballistic trajectory of to 50bmg.

Since you started with the hypothetical questions, what's on the shelves and in the racks at my local shop?

Not what you are asking, but I have a follow up question. What would be the advantage of an SKS or AR-15 over an high precision hunting rifle? In Canada these would be limited to 5 mags too. Wouldn't a high caliber, high precision rifle be a better option?

Yeah that's right, Zombie Paulson would be all over the pin pullers fer shure. He would slap us in jail for 5 years before he ate our brains.

edit-- I'd use my Marlin lever with .38 special wadcutters I loaded for pistol competition. I have about 4000 of the buggers and they are super accurate and blow big exit holes in skulls.

LOL. Fair enough. But with the current limitations, are there any advantages to SKS over high precision hunting rifles?

Scout rifle; Ruger, savage or otherwise in 308. More than enough oumph to get the job done, found everywhere and durable. Iron sights trump glass in apocalyptic scenario's.

Several targets? A semi auto in a mild recoil calibre will let you get in subsequent shots much faster. And that's what the SKS was designed for. And as far as a "high precision" hunting rifle goes, an SKS is MUCH cheaper to buy AND run/stock up for. Are you taking shots beyond 200 yards? Then the SKS may not be ideal. But at closer ranges, the lack of accuracy can be overlooked by throwing more lead faster. That and the damn thing's got a bayonet attached to it...

Not to mention that milsurp 7.62x39 might be easier to find than hunting calibre rounds if there is a run...around my neck of the woods I'm sure everyone will be grabbing for the .308, 30-06 and .22...I'll gladly take spam cans of milsurp though Lord knows I have a ton of it already.
