hey all,

I know this topic has been discussed over-and-over, but need some advice. From the manufactures website my rifle is labelled as Sa vz. 58 Sporter RIFLE .223 Rem (5.56 x 45 mm). Can I safely shoot 5.56 out of it?

thanks,

-J

It is actually labelled "556". What do you think?

Seriously, what did people do before the Internet?

As stated above, yes. It's stamped 5.56x45mm on the side. Be careful, when I bought mine, apparently CSA had a bad batch of rifles which were over gassed from factory. When I would fire a round, it would shoot 30 feet in the air and 30-40 feet away from me. As it was my first Czech rifle, I didn't think anything of it until a corner of the breech block broke off and a hairline crack formed down the centre of the bolt. I emailed CSA, and they pointed me to their only warranty centre in Canada, Movie Arms Group. I called them to set it up, and it just seemed very sketchy. He didn't ask for my pal, and just a bunch of other things that threw up red flags. I talked to my local gunsmith, and he vouched for them, so i have decided to go through with it, but life has got in the way and I have a 1000+ dollar paperweight sitting in my safe until now. Anyone have any experience with these guys?

Yes, first of all movie arms is FAR from sketchy. Your mistake is not sending it to them ASAP but they will take care of you 100%.
I needed them for warranty work ans while it did take a bit of time, they ended up giving me a brand new rifle in the end.

Thank you, I really appreciate that! Perhaps they had a new guy answering the phone that day ahaha or, maybe I forgot to wear my tinfoil hat. I will call them on monday to get the ball rolling again!

A thing to bear in mind for the future is in the USA .223 and 5.56 are tested independently to SAMMI specifications. In Europe they don't differentiate it is one test carried out by the CIP which always tests to the higher pressures.

Yes, movie arms is good to go. I bought a cz 858 it has always operated flawlessly and
Still does, then I bought a csa vz 58 In 7.62x39 and after about 200 rounds the same corner of the bolt blew off
I continued to shoot it till the bolt blew apart completely. All those rifles had the gasports drilled to big I sent it in
And they put a new gas block in. It operates just like cz now. I put put the most garbage chinese and bulgarian rounds in
And still performs like a dream

Thank you for the feedback, gentlemen. Perhaps it doesn't always pay of to be paranoid/concerned. I was going to send it in a while ago, right around the unwary time of the CZ858 reclassification, and wasn't sure if the CSA would be covered or not, and I suppose I just haven't got around to it yet, but with your guys' advice, I will certainly get the ball rolling monday.
Patt08, I would have used that dvd it came with a while ago, however it was lost in the floods along with a lot of my other stuff, luckily the warranty paperwork was good to go. again, thanks guys

Nah your not paranoid, after calling Movie arms a few time you realize that a few of their employees are clueless about the CSA warranty, but those who actually work in that department are top notch.

Just bug them often to know the status of your gun as they don't keep you in the loop.

Cheers

I had the same issue. Sent mine to MAG as per their instructions, turn around time was less than 2 weeks and upon opening my returned package was delighted to find a new extra mag for my troubles.
I have pounded 500 rounds of Norinco through her since the retro fit and all is good.
