I seem to remember reading somewhere on CGN that it's legal to personally import non-motorized reloading equipment from the USA to Canada, but I can't find anything in stickies in this board or Legalese to back that up... (I can only find details on ammo and firearms exporting)

Does anyone have a handy FAQ to make it a bit more clear?

(And yes, I know that reloading components are a complete no-no)

I buy reloading stuff from the states all the time, Titan Reloading to be exact.

Ammo components are an issue.

Contact the store, most know what's what if they have shipped to Canada before.

I know of no such restriction, and have personally bought a ton of stuff from half a dozen different manufacturers and distributors: Brownells, Natchez, Lil' Crow Gun Works, Inline Fabrication, RCBS (replacement parts shipped to me under warranty), Lyman and a few others I can't think of at the moment.

If it's not a munition, covered by ITAR, nobody will care.

Is the law any different shipping to a parcel depot and bringing it over yourself? I know Brownell's, at least, has proper export licensing for some stuff, but I sure as heck don't ;)

Thanks, that'll probably get me most of the way there. :)

I brought back a Lyman T Mag press last year with no problems, I have ordered bullet moulds from the US with no problems. Like the man said; "No bullets, cases, powder, primers, ammo".

Thank you gentlemen, kinda sucks that we cant bring back certain components but that is life. With the dollar down where it is shopping isnt a high priority right now.

All tools are legal to export from the US and to import here !

People seem to me a little bold with their confidence that unlicensed export of reloading tools can be taken for granted. I think it's important to realize that ITAR claims control over all equipment for loading ammunition, but then does us the favour of granting an exemption for hand loading tools. The President or Secretary of State could take that privilege away from us tomorrow with a stroke of a pen.

I've brought lots back in person and ordered it to be shipped and never have had a problem. just No components or automation devices for reloading. And obviously No ammo. But any equipment or tools should be fine

The cost to control these such items are even more then the cost of that precious pen stroke.

The President, yes. The Secretary of State, no. Not that it'd make any difference if King Obama decided he'd have an Edict.
You can't bring back any components, but it's the U.S. government saying so, not our side.

You're kidding, right? B&H was fined $250,000 for exporting $23,000 of scopes, and there was a similar issue with Cabela's and MidwayUSA. Midway and Cabela's USA no longer ship to Canada.

Maybe it cost the US a bit of effort to find this "infringement", but they probably just called up, said "give us your records for all Canadian addresses", and bob's your uncle...

Unfortunately, due to the U.S. Government Export Control Laws and Regulations, in certain circumstances U.S. Companies are required to complete proper customs documentation to ship the product(s) you ordered outside of the 50 contiguous States. We apologize, but at this time we are not able to complete the required customs documents due to insufficient information provided by the manufacturer. Therefore, we are forced to cancel your order.

And before that:

We apologize, but your order has temporarily been placed on hold. Certain elements of your order indicate that your item(s) will be exported. Prior to shipping your order, we need to verify that the ordered item(s) will not be leaving the United States without the valid authorization or export license issued by the U.S. Government. Please answer the following questions (by responding to this email) to aid in processing your order:

1) Who is the end user of the product(s) you have ordered?

2) What is the end use of the product(s) you have ordered?

3) Where is the final destination of the product(s) you have ordered? (Please respond with a city and country)

4) Why was your order submitted internationally?

5) Why is your order shipping to a freight forwarder?

This same outfit would not ship a RCBS Hand Priming tool yet you could order the Master kit containing the same tool.

The application changes with the weather.

A US Customs Officer told me a telescopic sight is "Optical Equipment" until it is installed on a rifle.
