Just got a 2006 marlin 1894c. Would like to see about getting the action smoothed out or improved as far as shorter throw. Also maybe some trigger work, peep sites, and some leather added. Anybody know anyone on the west coast that does reputable work?

I took my Marlin 336 to Italian and they did a good job of slicking the action. Cost me $85. I drive down to the city M-F, we can work something out if you need

Only the levers that use toggle designs in the guts can be set up for a shorter lever throw. As mentioned already your Marlin isn't one of those.

Rusty Wood can certainly do the slicking up work. The slicking up involves smoothing the internal parts and a spring kit that will reduce both the trigger pull and the effort needed to cycle the lever. And installing some sort of peep rear sight is easily done. Depending on what brand and model it may take a while to order in your new sight though. He typically has one or two around but it's pretty much impossible to stock a few of all the items that are out there.

If you're looking at using this for cowboy action matches then you also need to realize that you are only allowed to use tang mounted sights. Receiver mounted options are specifically not allowed in the SASS rules. But the good news is that he keeps a good supply of Marbles sights and bits and pieces in stock to handle all the popular cowboy rifles.

But he doesn't do any leather work other than maybe lace wrapping the lever loop. You'll either need to get such stuff from someone else or do it yourself if you're after a recoil pad cuff.

Thanks a lot for the info guys! Will get in touch with rusty woods and see what's involved. If it wasn't for you guys I probably never would have found him.

Zed, I really appreciate the offer and may take you up on it sometime. Of course any excuse to rip to the gunstore is always hard to pass up as well. I may also try slicking her up on my own as there is a couple good websites dedicated to doin that. A little more research first. Hope I run into you at the range sometime, will keep my open for that 336. cheers

I just sold the 336 to Norm at the Club. I blew the budget on another purchase, so I needed to clear one out of the safe. I'm at the range often, shoot trap sometimes.
