IMR 4064 for 223?

Here is a link to the Hodgdon Reloading Center Website. They list 3 loads for .223 with IMR4064 & 55gr

Varget (read: short cut 4064), 4198, 4895, 4320, 3031 can all be used in the .223. Check the new Hodgdon 2015 Reloading magazine on book shelves now.

You don't necessarily need any of the new wonder powders. Some of the stick powders may not meter well through some powder measures, but work well in an electronic powder dispenser.

That's why I have my Lyman DPS III 'lectronic.

As it gets to the programmed charge, it slows down, stops and will spit out 1 or 2 'sticks' to hit the exact charge weight. Don't know how I ever lived without it.

While you're waiting for the next charge to dispense, you have the time to seat a bullet in the last charged case. Life is good .....

I used it in a few test rounds I was making up. someone had given me a handful of various bullets to try and see which worked best in a rifle I had. I used a digital powder dispenser, so it wasn't an issue getting it weighed up. I haven't gone back to it as I have a different powder in my press's hopper.
how did it work for you?
I was trying 69gr SMK. My gun was the issue, so there was no point in wasting more time on tinkering with a load if the gun wasn't able to be consistent.

I loaded up 30 rnds, a little under max. It filled the cases pretty high. I was loading ,hornady 55g , FMJ, 26 g IMR 4064. Worked great , seems a little hot , as the cases were flying an extra 5 feet. Don't like how it goes through the dispenser , my buddy loaded 4 , 5 rnd batches for his 22 50 and with max load he was shooting 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards . With 55 g vmax. ( the wind was doing 70 or 80 Kph). He found it on par with CFE223, and a bit faster. I'm having great groups with the 53 g vmax in my .223 semi , using CFE .223. His 22 50 likes the 55 g vmax

this made me chuckle a bit...it's exactly what I do...and how I feel about it :)

My Speer manual ,calls for 26.5 g of 4064, using a 55 g FMJ, as the max load. I was .5 under max . Yes I know it's diff than the hodgens data site. But they also don't have the data for FMJ.

You must have compressed the s**t out of that load!
