Spring Turkey Hunt: Cannot call with partner if you have an unfilled tag?

Stupid simple?

Definition of "Hunting" in Ontario;

HUNTING;

Includes lying in wait for, searching for, being on the trail of, pursuing, chasing or shooting at wildlife, whether or not the wildlife is killed, injured, captured or harassed. You need a hunting licence to do any of these things, except where the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997, states otherwise.

The OP question's still stupid simple. CGN can turn any subject into a "if I had to defend myself in court" scenario.

YOU CAN CALL FOR YOUR BUDDY BEFORE AND AFTER YOUR TAG IS FILLED. PERIOD. THE ONLY THING THAT CHANGES IS THE FIREARM ASPECT.

If you don't believe me contact the MNR and they'll reiterate the above statement.

I don't have to call the MNR... I already stated earlier that my son and I call for each other... but the Ontario definition of hunting does leave this open to field interpretation... where it is not an issue is for game where party hunting is allowed.

if I go turkey hunting with my buddy and we call in a bird and I shoot it ,we can move to another area of the farm and keep right on calling for him to try for a bird and I still have my bird and gun with me ,what are thy going to charge me with .common sense still has to play a part .as lone as you have a lic to hunt turkeys you may call for another turkey hunter wether you have shot a bird or not ,after you have taken a bird you may call for other hunters but may not carry a firearm with you for turkeys ,this part is plain fior every body to under stand ,but lets look at another idea ,say I shot my bird on Monday and went out calling for a buddy on Tuesday could I bring my 22 magnum for coyotes or crows ,I have a small game lic and thy are both open season .what you think ?Dutch

Then you needs to get rid of the turkey ammo and pick up slugs

hoytcannon, you guys took two turkeys in day, would you adopt 58 year never shaven old guy

We shot them two seconds apart... they came in together... we have done this half a dozen times over the years. We once called in ten mature gobblers together... the hard part was waiting for the two biggest to separate from the group at the same time so that we could shoot... good times.

yes it is simple... you are HUNTING, and you have a tag that you have not filled yet.. there is no regulation that you have to have a gun AND shoot the turkey.. the special regulations only apply AFTER you have filled your tag and you are helping your buddy.. before that you are BOTH hunting, and you BOTH have tags to fill.. who shoots is up to you..

Can you go into the field after you have tagged out for the day and continue to call turkeys without a gun?

If your answer is yes, then how do you reconcile the Ontario definition of "hunting?"

If your answer is no, then how come you can call for a friend in the same circumstances, when party hunting is not allowed...

Understand, I am only playing devil's advocate here, just to illustrate that there is indeed room for confusion. I have already stated what we do above.

no.. your trying to confuse a simple situation..

Yes you are hunting and YES YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DO IT AS PER THE REGULATIONS. you just can't shoot a bird of have a firearm after you have tagged yours..

You are permitted to call wild turkeys for another hunter after
filling your own licence(s), but you must not be in possession
of a firearm when doing so.

Why are you yelling? I am supporting the OP's right to pose a question without ridicule... and illustrating that he has legitimate reason for confusion. This is a discussion forum... hence discussion.

We "do" call for each other after tagging for the day.

your not doing cause he has a legitimate reason, your doing cause.....

your doing cause you just want to take the opposite position of the response that was already given, and referenced to the hunting regs which give him the answer to the question.

just cause the OP did not understand he was hunting before any turkey was shot, does not mean there is confusion in the regs.. it shows that he didn't know the regs about when he was technically hunting and the situation he referenced did not apply (yet)..

Confusion in the OP != confusion in the Regs.. your trying to say there is, when it's not..

The exact wording from the regs....end of discussion.

Law is as many have stated. You can still call turkey's for another licensed hunter even if you have filled your tags. There is nothing that states two hunters, both with tags, can each carry a firearm.
