Hey everyone,
I'm new to the forum, and AR game, infact I've only shot/hunted with rifles and shotguns before really. I've gotten into semi-long distance shooting over the last year and I love it, but I want more! I'm looking for my first AR style but I don't even know where to start. I could google all day long, but I value opinions and experience from everyone here. Lots of help so far in my short time on the forum. So...

I've shot a few, Norinco, Bushmaster, Colts, and I like them all, but for my first I'm looking for advice. I've seen the new OMNI's at my local store as well. I'm not particularily set on new or used(a good deal is a good deal), and for my first perhaps used might be the route to go? My price range cap is around $1000. Probably something around .223(unless you have other suggestions). Any help/advice/used offers would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I'm in Cambridge, ON if anybody wants to get together and shoot, or just talk guns/hunting drop me a line!

Thanks
Jake

1000$ will get you a good used AR 15 off the EE.......or you could get a used norinco AR for around $500 and spend the other $500 on a nice little cache of .223 .

Have a look at the S&W M&P15, they are reasonably priced for an entry level AR. All metal upr & lwr as a good base to work from if you wish dress it up.

Waiting on delivery of one now from another CGN member. They appear now & again in the EE.

Get one off the EE.
For someone to tell you to get a Norinco... that's like saying "Buy a really cheap car so you have lots of money left over for gas". Think about that before you consider a Norinco.

Hard to go wrong. Unless you buy a plastic lower. Dpms makes a nice rifle too, for Norinco money.
M&P sport is great too.

My wife and I both have S&W 'Sport' models. They lack a FA and ejection port cover - Boo-hoo ..... I REALLY miss not having those. The 'Sport' model would be in the same price range as other entry level carbines if they were on the rifle.

What hasn't been mentioned here is the ROT. The 'Sport' has a 1x9 which works well with 55 gr and 62 gr bullets. If you want to shoot heavier bullets you might want a carbine with a faster ROT.

Ill go against the grain and tell you not to waste time on inferior products and go straight to a daniel defense or colt. You'll never have any issues.

Why waste time and money buying something inferior when you will buy something superior later?

Buy it, shoot it, keep it, be happy.

I would recommend the CORE15 M4 if you want a well built / reliable rifle that does not break the bank. We (my wife and I) recently bought two of these from Wanstalls. There is a review on it in the Firearms media forum. We are VERY happy with their performance and quality. Plus you get their no BS lifetime warranty. If you can spend more than $1000 on it, mikethebike might be on the right track with the Daniel Def. Heard great things about those.

^^^ this!! CORE is a GREAT budget AR with many features not found on other cheaper rifles. As stated, a little extra scratch will get you a used DD of Colt, which are slightly nicer again. The fit and finish of any of these are superior to a Norc, and you won't have to worry about the potential to need fitting for aftermarket parts.

20" Bushmaster 3Gun HBAR AR15
20" barrel, 1:9 twist, chrome lined Bushmaster heavy barrel factory AR-15.
Lower is marked "Restricted Law Enforcement/Government Use Only" on one side.
On the other side it has the bushmaster logo with "Cal. 223-5.56MM Mod. XM-15-E2S."
I used the gun for 3Gun matches over the last 2 years and it runs 100%, condition is very good, just small marks here and there from usual installs and use. Would be great for tac irons division due to long site radius.

Comes with:
A2 fixed stock with storage, Timney #670 trigger, barrel orange safety plug, hogue black grip, free float metal round forend, anti walk out pins, railed low profile gas block, Magpul BAD lever, adjustable length bipod (for bench shooting or you'll be bumped to open class), short compensator, BCM Mod 3 charging handle, clone GG&G MAD BUIS rear site (multiple aperture device)/fold down front sight, soft case with storage for 5 magazines.
*Bonus will now include 6 10 round LAR magazines with Magpul baseplates

$1,150 plus shipping or local from Etobicoke, ON. No trades.
Pics can be emailed emailed to you. Thanks for looking.

What are your thoughts guys/gals?? Good deal?

I picked up an older bushmaster with a 16" heavy barrel. guy hadn't tinkered with it, and it was pretty much a safe queen. I got it for $1000 and its exactly what I was hoping for. More accurate than I had expected and very pleased with Bushmaster. I would do it. I 20" is going to be a bit heavier than mine, but its going to be accurate!
