Just purchased a S&W 586 6" Barrel. I am sure looking forward to getting it. I had some bad issues with my last revolver purchase so kind of excited
about this purchase.
Any feedback on this revolver would be great
Dan

I have a 586 no dash with the target grips and i love it! it's way more accurate than i am and it has a wonderful trigger. Did you buy used or one of the "classic" line S&W has reintroduced?

1983 565 no dash

I have a 4'' 586 that has served me well for many years. I have purchased a 6" barrel that will be installed sometime this spring. The revolver is built quite well. Finish has been durable the only fault is a chip in the original grips that just seemed to appear one day. It should last you forever.

If you can only have one revolver - this is it. Only gun better might be the 686 in stainless steel. They are deadly accurate and you can shoot patty cake .38 Special target loads or full blast .357 Magnums - and they all shoot well. This pistol has a place on my bucket list and maybe one day...sigh.

Enjoy the finest funnest revolver on the face of the earth!

Well, congratulations. I may be a bit biased but I really think you made the right choice. I have two Smith's now and I'm pretty sure my next gun purchase (when it happens) will be number three.

Can't go wrong with a 586. I went into my local gun shop a couple years ago wanting to look at a gp100, and handled a 586 that they had in the case. I couldn't sleep all weekend and went back on the Monday and bought the 586. No regrets here.

You can't go wrong with a 586. Mine has a DA trigger that's smoother than a hot knife through butter. Congratulations, you'll love it.

I have a 581 4" [I think they were all 4"...fixed sights] It's a nice shooter. FALover...where did you get that 6" barrel? I'd consider installing one on my revolver just to get it off the prohib list...

I've had a 686 since about 1994. I'll never sell it. When you've bought something that's near perfect, "trading up" isn't necessary. I've never bothered to keep track of the amount of rounds I've put through it but if I had to guess, it would be between 8k-10k, with most of those consisting of .38 Special.

Just started shooting handguns after a 12 year hiatus. In the last month I've put somewhere close to 800-1k rounds through it.

Real good price I had an old rifle that I had not used in about 10 years that cut the price in half.
Now I just gotta wait for Canada post
I just might buy the 686 with my tax return

The 686 is the same gun (L Frame) only in stainless. Why not explore some of the other S&W models? ....Model 19...Model 10 Military and Police....K38 Target masterpiece (became the Model 14)...all K frames....or a Classic N frame model 27 or 29
