Looking particularly for S&W 500 magnum supplies. I need some cast and some plated bullets in various weights and prefer NOT to have them shipped. Ordering a few hundred bullets would double my cost and defeat my goal of saving money. Don't mind driving an hour, if I'm going in that direction anyway!
(I'm in the Hamilton area)

I'm just getting into brass reloading. (although I've reloaded a zillion 12g) Picked up a RockChucker from Cabelas Buffalo. Recently purchased some Trailboss and some Australian IMR 4227, and rifle primers.
And yes, I've got several reloading manuals. Can't wait to start!

Cheers

You might want to try Hummason Mfg. Ltd. in Ancaster which is close to you.
Their banner says " Manufacturers of Leadshot / Distributors of Reloading Components"

Just Google their website by name...

.50 cal cast or plated bullets will be an issue anywhere. Low demand. Probably worse than the cast .410" I've been hunting for eons. .41AE.
Likely best to go talk to Al Simmons and ask him. Gun shows maybe.
You could try Aim Projectiles too. Nothing about .50's on their site though.

You and I have to get together sometime. I got my 500 a few months ago and will start casting lead for it soon. If you want to pay a crazy price Lanz has Hornady 500 projectiles for $65 per 50. They have a few box's. If we do ever meet maybe we'll order some from x reload as I plan to whenever I get around to it. Any idea of what powder you are going to use? I'm doing 296/110 for big bang and trailboss for little bang.

Hummason and/or Lawry's won't have projectiles. Good source for powder/primers though.

Thanks, Gents. I called Hummason , AIM and Al Simmons the other day. No luck. I was in Lawrys the other day and got powder (Trailboss and IMR4227), and primers.

Today I found a place in Maitland, Ontario that has the .50 at $80/500. Price is fine, but I'm curious about he $hipping.
I get up that way a few times a year.

I belong to Silverdale and am familiar with Lanz. Not interested in buying Hornady plated... I'll use cast bullets. I believe Doug (owner of Silverdale) has a 500, so I'll ask him, when I see him. Maybe he reloads.

Coreyd- ill assume you're also a member at Silverdale. Perhaps we can meet up there in a while. I don't go when it's stupidly cold!
I'd definitely be interested in teaming up to make/buy ammo to feed these pigs! I'm new at reloading metallic, but recently bought a press. I couldn't find any 110 powder around. Always shortages. Email me at karldroberts@hotmail.com

You're not going to find plated or cast 50cal bullets locally anywhere, that's the problem with the 500, bullets are hard to come by. Now you can get jacketed pretty much most places, I order my Hornady bullets from Higginson's, shipping is reasonable.

Maybe we should all get together as Corey and I have some casting to do :)

^^^^^^^^

I think that's a fantastic idea! I just have to get off my butt and order the stuff. With getting loaded up for IPSC and some ice fishing time has been tight. Come March or whenever the ice is no longer safe, casting will continue. I'll be running the Lyman mold for 50.

btw. I think Al Simmons might still have some 296 left in stock. It's the exact same powder as H110.

I contacted Rick today, from R&R Bullets in Maitland. Although I'd have to pay for shipping obviously, his prices seemed very reasonable. I think it was $70. for 500 bullets (400gr, I believe).

I have looked into casting, and I believe it adds to your whole shooting experience. From what google has taught me, I can collect a tonne of wheel weights, only to throw out half, due to zinc, plastic and other contaminants. Last week I fruitlessly canvassed about six tyre shops. Also, I read that my neighbours might not appreciate my new smelting hobby, due to the aroma!

The next day, I found a place in Burlington that'll sell me pure lead. I'd buy some, but I'm not sure if 99.99% lead is good for bullet making, and I don't know where to find antimony and tin to alloy it with......and not sure how. Not really sure I want to get into metallurgy right now.

Anyway, if I can buy and use the pure lead from the 'lead store' and buy a mold and furnace to cast it with, then I'll do so.
I assume I won't give the neighbors all cancer if I smelt PURE lead? I like most of my neighbors.

Thanks, all.

Wait until I get my mold for 500. I am sure between myself and yomamma we can teach you everything you need to know about casting. Once we start we can use my mold until you decide what to do. Don't pay more than $1 or $1.50 per pound of lead. Collect what you can and where you can for cheaper or free before you buy high priced alloy. We'll get the rest covered for you. Once the weather is nice and the days are longer we'll have more time to play. Be patient for a month or two.

cd.

If its the place I'm thinking of the sell for $1.90/lb.

I'll sell you the original 50lbs you asked for cheaper than that and no tax.

Stop by, I'll show you my small smelting operation which does not upset the neighbours.
