i know very, very little here, please forgive my ignorance.
I recently purchased an enfield no 5 Jungle Carbine. Good bore, flash hider, original wood, sling etc.

But

The charger guide has been build up and flattened square, then drilled and tapped. Here is also a custom rail built for the gun with a rounded end to match the receiver. The rail is dovetail like a 22.

Is this the work of an armoury like the seller declared or the work of bubba and a welder.

And so, what's it worth?

Do you mean what's the rifle worth? Less than it would be if those modifications had not been done.

Or what is the rail worth? Hardly anything, since it seems there is only one gun in the world that if fits. It sounds like it was a one-off by bubba.

I'm more wondering what the rifle would be worth.
I've bought a few sporter enfields at a 100 bucks a pop, is this one of them, or worth more?

No armoury would have ground the charger flat, or mounted a scope mount on a No. 5 (let alone a 3/8 dovetail). This rifle was only in service for a short while, due to issues like a wandering zero so the odds of it being modified in service would also decrease significantly. Value, more than likely is the sum of the parts unless you got some amazing deal (also the restoration market on these isn't nearly as big as say a No. 4 Mk. 1(*) or a No. 1 Mk. 3(*) just due to the fact that if bubba got to it he tended to ruin the ability to return these to normal). You might also want to find out if it is a real No. 5 or a No. 4 converted to No. 5 standard (by companies in the 50s and 60s), there are sites out there which will show the differences (e.g. lightening cuts), if it is a converted No. 4 then the value drops even more. Price, a normal No. 5 tends to run somewhere around 350-550$ so yours more likely will be in the 0-300$ range (I would lean towards the lower end of the market with those changes).

An original Jungle Carbine in very good to excellent condition goes for around $600 nowadays.
A modified JC will be in the same range as other "sporterized" Enfields which is $150 - 300.

I found someone to take it off my hands for what I paid, so I consider myself happy.
I can tell you, I was mighty irate when I opened the box to my numbers matching full milspec jungle carbine and found holes drilled in the top and this cheesy rail installed.
Lesson learned.
