Except that it could equally be from some ordinary Wehrmacht soldier who was conscripted against his will. My gf's German stepfather and his brother managed to stay out of the war until they were conscripted. They were fortunate to get into the Navy, which was apparently the "safest" option at that point. Even so they had a nasty time of it. Fritz told me of going ashore somewhere but can't remember anything afterwards; whatever he saw there he seems to have permanently blanked out of his memory.
 
This might have been said already, but once you have the DNA you can submit it to the different genealogical DNA databases and see what match, if any, you come up with.

Before having testing done, find out exactly which type of DNA the databases use. If you think the blood has been there since the war, you might want to start with databases in Europe.

This may have more truth than you think ;)
This particular type of gun was mainly assigned to SS units, and German police. I have already cut myself 3 times on the gun, and once on the bayonet. The bolt has cut me, and the gun smells like something that died, even though I cleaned the gun throughout. Spooky ~

The blood is probably from some old pot-bellied guy with reading glasses.
