With the popularity of the 1911 platform im kinda surprised the Norico or SAM has not come out with a forged steel .22 to challenge the GSG etc.
I know i would be interested in one even, one in the down sized Browning version would be cool.
I wonder what volume of interest it would take to get something like this going?

Forged steel frame is overkill for .22....steel slides are too heavy for .22, take a look at the Grand Power thread and see how many issues they have.
GSG is about as good as it gets for $350 for a 1911 clone. Ruger is the all steel bulletproof .22 if you want something reliable that will last forever

^ this. A steel slide has too much mass for the little cartridge to blow back with any reliability. Ever wonder why the Model 41 is designed the way it is? (half the mass of a full slide) With a Ruger, it's only a bolt carrier.
GSG is an alloy which is the compromise between using the design and cartridge.

The 1911 design works very well when matched with the .45 acp cartridge so there's no need to fret. ;)
