Anyone *like* 1911 in 9mm?

Cool! The only thing I forgot to mention is that my SAM came with Pachmayr (not finger groove) wrap-around grips and I REALLY REALLY like them.
Look like these: http://pachmayr.com/home/signature-grips-wo-backstraps.php
Can't tell from the web site picture if these wrap around the front strap or not but mine do. Was told that some stock SAM grip panels suck but mine came with these so I can't comment.
Because of my experience with these grips, I got a set for my Kimber...and I really liked the stock Kimber ones... but these are the cat's pajamas IMO.

Sorry but the gun god (JMB) created the 1911 to shoot the 40 and then the army said it had to be a 45 so he modified the design. A 1911 in 9mm is just plain wrong. It is meant to throw a big piece of lead. OK I will shut up now.

I thought Browning was building his big autos in .380ACP first and created the 45 because the army was turned off of the .38 by then.

I bought a pair of these grips to try on a 45 with front strap checkering that I don't like

I don't care for them as they get squirmy in the hand.

I'm mostly a wood and double-diamonds guy. There are some things that simply don't need changing.

1911 in 9mm for me sound like a Camaro SS with a V6... Could be wrong, but it's my impression... Just saying. JP.

Anything in 9mm is pretty wimpy ;)

I mostly insist on having one because the brass is free and I'm not worried about chasing every last one when I shoot outdoors.

I'd like to give a BHP or CZ-75 an honest go someday. I've only ever had 1 .45 that I didn't like, whereas it's been hard to find a 9mm that I *do* like.

I have an STI Lawman 5.0 in 9mm. Love it! no problems with it, tripp mags and EGW magazine release, fibre optic FO 1.00 sight. Will buy a 45 ACP if i can find enough brass, possibly a Duty One, hopefully...

A CZ Shadowline is the one CZ that interests me - I liked the one that I shot a few years back. The Glock 34 I'll keep for now, but it doesn't excite me. Berettas I can't get into - the pattern with me seems to be that double stack pistols don't wow me.

That being said, has anyone tried any of the various Turkish Tristar CZ/Jericho clones? I'm wondering how they compare to the real deal

I got a Beretta/Wilson Brigadier 92G on order from Gary, that should prove to be a stellar 9mm but right now, if i'de had to choose one, it would be between the Steyr L9-AI or the Bersa Thunder Pro 9, both are fantastic pistols, my Glock while being very reliable is now use in conjuncture with an Hera rifle to carbine SBR kit... JP.

Sounds like you would prefer a Vega with a V6. I'll take that Camero SS with V6 that you are dismissing :nest: ... :)

I'd forgotten about Glock carbine chassis. I should give that a look. I was pondering a Beretta CX-4 carbine otherwise. Where did you pick up the Hera?

I saw that Wilson 92 - looks amazing. I can't spend over a grand to speculate on a pistol, though, which is the main reason why I don't have a Shadow Line. I'd be more comfortable buying a 1911 at that level.

Can't see those Wilsons coming up used any time soon either ;)

When the name Wilson is in the equation, there is no speculation whatsoever, i bought 2 kits, one Hera for my Glock 22 and one KOPS for my G21 both from Wolverines ( Think they are still in sale)... Take a look... JP.

Cheers. I'll talk to Grumpy.

As for Wilson - I have no doubt of the pistols. I meant speculating personally on whether they will "do it" for me or not. I had a Girsan - Good pistol, but I just could not make it work for me. Perhaps now I could, now that I'm a better shooter. I know that I liked the Shadow SP-01 when I shot it a few years back, but CZ75B and CZ Phantoms I have shot more recently turned me cold.

For what its worth....I had 2 nork 1911's . one in 45 "very accurate"...one in 9mm " it was the sh1ts" and so was my buddys 9mm.

My experience as well. have a number of Norc 45's and they are all accurate. Some are very accurate.

When the last batch of Norc 9mm 1911s was released, I bought 3 of them. They were spray guns. The barrel had wiggle at the chamber end.

I bought 3 Roto brand 9mm barrels from Sarco. About $45 each. Each barrel was slightly long and needed a few licks of a file to be a nice tight fit. They now shoot very well.

I like shooting them because the 9mm 1911 is quite heavy, and the accurate load is quite mild, so it is like shooting a big BB gun.

I've found with some pistols that I have to get comfortable with them before I can shoot them well . and some shoot like a dream the first time I pick them up . give it time . and I would contact who ever you bought the pistol off and tell them that it's shooting all over the place and your a seasoned shooter .

but before you make the call if you are shooting reloads try some factory stuff . I have noticed some bullets don't shoot well out of some guns .maybe if your useing reloads the bullets are'nt sized right .and diffrent powders shoot diffrently in some guns. so I think

just my opinion . good luck

TL: DR - it's been resolved, thanks to Wolverine sending out a replacement bushing :)

I think I may just sell it when the 9mm Thunderbolts come in. I fancy the adjustable BoMar-esque rear sights over fixed novaks.

The 1911 is "proven".

+1 i agree. Lot's of people will say 1911s arent that reliable in 9mil, but they are ammo/magazine dependent to be reliable. Once you get this down you can shoot thousands of rounds without a hiccup.
When i had a 9mm 1911, the way to run it was FMJs and Metalform mags. Best reliability to be found.
If i should go back to 1911 9mm tomorow for whatever the reason, i think the STI trojan would be the best bang for the buck.
A good base to start a build anyways.
