I have quite a bit of field experience with the AR platform,
If it is holding open at 1' You have a gas tube issue.
The gas tube is bent and not aligned with the bolt carrier.
You will have to do some more closure inspection on the gas tube end.
No the gas tube should not be moving around, it is locked into place when you align the upper and barrel nut.
Make sure the tip is not damaged. If it is you will need to re flare it.
Look at the marks on the tip it will indicate to you how it is bent.
it is best to put a drill bit into the gas tube gently bend it back into place.
Once it's in place it should be secure and not move at all. If it does move around that indicates it's damaged at the barrel nut.
The gun is really fowled this also indicate a poor gas tube set up.
As for the bolt spring, it's a non issue add on. it is not required and will not effect the function of the rifle if removed.
If you have trouble understanding what I'm talking about or you need more info drop me a PM
