Sks-d

SKS D sure are a rare breed these days. If I were to pick my favourite one, it would be by far my SKS D Model. Chromed bore, Chamber, Bayonet, Bolt and Bolt carrier.
This one is not one of the Modified SKS M Versions it's an authentic PRE BAN (pre-Clinton) BETA ARMS CA USA import SKS D. Never saw another one like it. If I were to see another one, I'd happily pay $500-600 for one. If anyone has one, that's what they are worth or more. BETA ARMS INC rifles are the first Chinese exported AK magazine conversions, all imported in 1988. All serial numbers on the BETA ARMS INC rifles will begin with 88 and follow with an additional 5 digits.

I think I paid $125 once apon a time for this one with the original 3 AK mags issued with it.

I would love to get my hands on a thumbhole stock model , like the one below but non-res. I think dave from hi-cal has one but wouldn't sell .

I picked up an MC-5D(Monte Carlo 5 round detachable) Which did not come with the Monte Carlo stock. For $250! WThe MC-5D is pretty much an SKS-D modified to meet the requirements of the "Assault weapons ban" in the US. Anyone know where I can get AK mags for a decent price in Canada..

I think alot of confusion comes with the SKS -D, there are three versons, the SKS M, the SKS -D and the SKS MC-5D. Each is different and each have thier own price. Markings, mill work, parts etc. all are individual to model. Prices are not one fits all.

$50.00 each from Marstar.

I saw that, its a bit expensive... I've been playing with the idea of importing some from the US(Particularity the tapco ones) and having a gunsmith pin them to 5 before bringing them into Canada.. However I’m not sure of the legality of doing so.

Had 3 of them over the years. Nothing special. Most of the mags didn't work properly and had some feeding issues.
I find the regular sks with the tapco mags work much better. They both hold 5 rounds. Why pay extra for an ODD rifle.? So what if it takes an AK mag. It doesn't make it a better gun. Maybe for collectors purpose. ?? Its a pretty flimsy mechanism holding in the mag that broke on mine.

The mag release on my MC-5D does look well made. I've heard that a lot of the AK mags them selves are hit or miss. From what I've heard Tapco makes the best ones. The people I know that own them, don’t have any issues with them.

The problem with the MC-5D is the mag latch, It is not strong enough for larger mags, After firing even just once, the mag would fall off. The gun originally came with the 5rd norino mag, this works. The Ms and Ds use AK latch, The MC-5D was built ground up milled from factory, not refurbished. Best rifle in my opinion but needs the AK latch.

I've heard of that issue on any of the SKS's with detachable mags.
Some times its the gun, some times its the magazine its self. The problem is the mag latch does not fully engage over the lip of the magazine because the lip is to large..

I had 2 Ds once upon a time but ended up selling the with the bayo.
The other one is minty so I kept it.
