Comrade Richard here to introduce my "new to me" 1941 Izhevsk SVT-40 !!

It's still in grease so more pictures will follow once cleaned.

Stock is not an ex-AVT stock and has no repairs anywhere... but there's a neat looking bolt through the wrist. There are quite a few stamps on the receiver, some of which I haven't encountered before.

Looking forward to giving her a good cleaning and going out to the range for a fun session of "pew pew" !!!

Nice rifle! Now get out and put some rounds through it, I promise u it will be a blast.

Oh, trust me, I know the SVT is a "hoot to shoot" !!

I was fortunate to grab a couple SVTs when Lever Arms was running its Xmas special in 2013. I kept one and the other went to my son. I shot mine about half a dozen times since then... always a ton of fun !!

Your right, I didn't look at who posted but we went out and shot the SVT's and Mosins out at the pits together.

If I hadn't picked up an svt from Corwin recently I'd buy that 666# rifle in a heartbeat, while a third svt would be a great thing. I have my eyes I a couple other guns this year.

Started taking the rifle apart this morning. Wow, lots of grease in there !!

The bore is really shiny and the lands and grooves look very crisp.

I could not remove the gas adjustment knob by simply pressing on it but I used the gas adjustment tool to rotate it until it popped out.

Anyhow, I have never seen so many stamps on a barrel. They are all located around the circumference of the barrel where it screws into the receiver. They are mostly diamonds with a number inside.

Anyone else find this when they removed the butt plate on their SVT-40 ??

The holes meet and form a void.

I guess it was an attempt at lightening the stock ??

I was fondling, hhmm, I mean cleaning, my SVT this morning and suddenly realized it has the famous "scope mount grooves"... but obviously no notch.

LOL...Good surprise. Thought you knew that you had them from the first pic!
Now to get a mount!

thewhole9yards you should definitely add one to the collection! I recently added an m44 to the collection from my fond memory of shooting yours a while back. I would be down to return the favor and let you try out my svt-40.

To the op, beautiful rifle man!

Could someone maybe clarify what is necessary for mounting a scope on the svt? My rifle has the grooves on the sides like in the picture above but no 'notch'. Also, what to look for to determine if one has an avt-40 stock? I believe mine is an avt, only because the stock has notches in both sides of the trigger guard for the safety, which I would think flipping it the right would be full auto? Any info would be much appreciated.
