7-08, 7x57 or 7mm express

ever have one of those days where it takes longer to pick a rifle then it does to get dressed??? Now I know what women go through with shoes..........

Now there is a true statement !

Over the last 50 - odd years I have had all the 7s listed including a 280 AI, liked them all and put meat in the freezer with all.
Now my only 7 is a Rem. Mag. mainly because that particular rifle fits me so well and if necessary I can download it to duplicate the others...

I have a 7x57 and a 280 and they are my 2 favourite rifles. Of course they are m two newest additions and I always love the new one the most. The 7x57 is in a light HVA and the 280 in a custom ifle, both with their advantages but the cartridges give me all I want.

Same!

Other that fit in a short action, which is huge! :p

Not so huge if you prefer long actions, if you like short actions, then you are restricted to short cartridges. So if I can run a long action, using a long cartridge, why would I want a short one? Certainly if one wishes to source a light weight hunting rifle, 5.5 pound long action rifles are available. Anything lighter should be worn in a holster.

Short action rifles are a nice carry, and quick cycling... but the major draw back is how limited you become on the bullet's OAL due to nothing more than magazine length... it makes sense to chamber short action cartridges in long action rifles, just to have the liberty to work with any bullet at any length you choose.

Not a lot of difference, and whatever your shooting won't know the difference.

I have a 7-08, great little rifle. But if if were to build another mountain/sheep rifle to carry I might just go the 280 AI route.

I'm a longtime off and on again 7 nut of the 3 I would keep the 7x57. Followed by the 280, or depending on fit keep the 1 that fits best that is kinda how I would choose

Non of the above.....I have culled off the 7mm herd - and now only have one left!

The 7x64 Breneke!

(I have 300 pieces of brass) and a bullet selection second to non in 7mm off the shelf!

Maybe Hoyt is one of those cute "single-serving-size" types. Size matters to them.

I am most certainly "cute..."

I can normally follow the twisted, convoluted output of your grey matter... but I must confess that you lost me on the second turn.

What rifle is your 7 mag? Stock fit is what I am particularly interested in.

I like the 7mm Mauser (7x57mm) too ... and I have this in that chambering:

I love it. Yes, love it. ... But having said that, I admit that I am thinking about selling it.

Not that there is anything wrong with Ruger Int. RSI's - solidly crafted, gorgeous rifles!
And, not that there is anything wrong with the 7mm Mauser chambering - fantastic cartridge!

It's just .. well .. I kinda would like to buy a Kimber Classic stainless/walnut in 7mm-08.

Hoytcanon, and others (you know who you are!) have convinced me of the merits of the -08 cartridges ..
.. and .. and I am on a Kimber thing at the moment (so much so I've sold off almost ALL of my Sakos!!)

Why is it that we are NEVER 100% satisfied? Why is the grass always greener??

*sighs*

Its a Weatherby Vanguard S2 with the synthetic stock and its probably the best fitting most comfortable factory stock I have.
For me the cheekpiece height is perfect for a scope mounted in low to medium height rings, length of pull is perfect for me when wearing hunting clothes...
