This year I'd like to complete a short action all weather bolt gun in 338 federal. I've decided it will be a barrel swap on a savage 10 action in a Boyds stock. Now the question is what to do with the extra barrel. I'd like to use it for some type of wildcat for fun so I have the choice of a 22-250/243/7-08/308 factory barrels to play with. What's the funnest wildcat or uncommon cartridge that can use one of these take off barrels

22-250 AI as above, or 243AI, 6mm-284 (feeding may be an issue depending on which magazine setup you are using), 7mm-08AI (280 in a short action), 284 Win, see previous notes on feeding....

308 ?...well, it's a 308. What can you do with it?......tomato stake maybe.

Hey BB, the 6mm-284 is one fun screamer and I have never had feed problems starting with a 243 and I have built 1/2 doz of them. All it takes at that point is to ream the chamber and voila a 6mm-284. You can buy dies as a standard set from Huntingtons in RCBS or Redding bushing dies from Sinclair Int. Then stock up on some Lapua 6.5-284 brass and you're off to the races. You could also start with a 260 and go to the 6.5-284 which is another fun gun and great cartridge, ALMOST 264 WM ballistics from a short action.

Extra barrel?

I own a Kimber 84M Stainless Classic .. and I have 2 barrels for it: .243 and .308

And why stop at two: .. if anyone has a 7mm-08 barrel for it, I would happily take it off their hands. :)

Good idea! However, I already own a "25 souper" ..
In addition to the Kimber 84M Stainless Classic (above) in .243/.308, I have a Kimber 84L Montana in .25-06

And yes, the .25-06 is "souper" .. :)

.

Pretty sure he wasn't referring to you but rather was responding to the original poster.
