storage question

Hi,

My guns are kept in a humidity controlled (heating rod) safe.
Though when I am not using a rifle for 6 months or more, I leave the bore with a oïl film just in case.
But what about handguns?. Sometimes, I will not use a handgun for a couple of months, should I pass a oily patch trough the bore just in case?

I tried that, and they seemed to draw more moisture than with out so I ditched them.

I use what the boating industry and RV owners use, DRI-Z-AIR. I put one container in each safe and drain out the water every month, and it keeps the moisture levels just right. Expensive from auto parts places or boating supplies, but I buy a gal for $12.00 at a RV show and it lasts all year. Going to have to look at the kitty litter thing, as I have never heard of it before.

I used a product similar to the one you use (a no-name version of DampRid). They work great, but I stopped using it because the active ingredient in those products is calcium chloride, which is a salt. The water that collects out of the air into these things becomes very highly concentrated salt brine, which made me nervous to have in my safe. I'm probably being a little over-cautious, but that was my concern with it.
