So the MK12 has always been one of my favourite rifles. I honestly prefer the Mod 0 with the fixed rifle stock, and the upper rail adaptor, but then again, the Mod 1 is a beauty as well. It's just that between the two, the Mod 0 has that unique SPR look, if that makes any sense or not.

So who's got one, or two, or both? Clones or your own personal take on the MK12...I'd love to see a few just to inspire my own build, which will hopefully be getting off the ground this year. But I have a feeling that if this thread turns out more than a few replies, it's gonna' inspire a lot more than just me!

Thanks, guys...looking forward to your replies.

Here's a bit of info that I've gathered on the MK12 and its variations. I'm gonna keep updating this thread with weapon specs and pics...if any of the info is not accurate or true, please let me know (and provide me with a reliable source, if possible) and I'll make the necessary corrections. I absolutely love my DD Mk12, and it does not disappoint. Not a true Mk12, as they say, but I'm very pleased with her. Had her out yesterday, sorry for the poor pic. Looking forward to seeing everyone else's! I hope to post better pics soon, thanks for looking.

Yup! That's a winner!

Forgive me, I'm woefully under-knowledged when it comes to the Mk12. Who produces the original "tube forend" and is it something stores stock and sell?

This thing:

Oh hey! As I was typing this post someone put up a photo of one! Cool stuff simpleton

PRI (Precision Reflex) makes the handguards and rails for the original Mod 0 look. Wolverine Supplies will import parts from them.

Depending on which Mod your going to clone (0,1 or H) i've also seen DD Lite and KAC URX & M5 RAS utilized.

I don’t know much about MK12s, but I’ve always wanted something like it. It’s been all the rage with the shorter carbine ARs for the last decade or so and I started off with a 14.5in Norc and then a 10.5in Colt, but I’ve always wanted a rifle-length AR so I picked up a Colt SA20 recently and now I have my rifle-length AR. But now that I’ve found this thread, I’m thinking if I should buy/build a MK12 style upper (with the free float handguard, low-profile gas block, etc) or muck around with the SA20 upper that I have?

Great looking rifle, the MK12, hope to see more pics!

My Mod 1

The upper is a true MK12 upper, Built by navy SEAL Monty Leclair (Centurion Arms)
Douglas Barrel, actual MK12 barrel, spec'd by crane. 5.56. 1/7 18", rifle length gas system
OPS INC Collar and Brake
KAC free float Rail, with grip/covers/Bipod mount
KAC Black front sight
KAC rear 200-600m sight
Arms Inc Med profile QD scope rings
Leupold 3-9 TMR

Lower is LMT, with Geisselle trigger and Rifle stock.

Hilo...that is gorgeous, man. Nice rifle...

Hey guys, I'm gonna' try to keep updating the OP with weapon specs for each MOD of the MK12. I'm discovering more as I research, so if any of the info is not as accurate as it should be, please let me know and I will make the necessary corrections. I'll add pics as well, and I'll do my best to get all of the info up as quickly as I can. But in the meantime, keep posting your pics...there's some good-looking MK12s already posted!

The Mod0 clone was assembled with
- Vltor Mur Upper ( its what I had at the time in parts bin )
- Noveske SPR barrel .....this an intermediate length ( longer than mid length shorter than rifle ) gas system so the PRI gas block / sight actually is non functional as gas block
- Spikes lower with Colt LPK and Geissele Hi Speed trigger
- I took a while to get the proper arms #38 spr peq-2-3 rail . This item is no longer made , which is why all current clones use the "clone" of this ARMS rail
- all other parts were straight forward

Scope is not correct since its a MKV 3.5-10

Mounts are not correct since I just couldn't bring myself to use ARMS rings ( no insult intended to arms users ! ) scope sits in Badgers

Bipod is Atlas , which I prefer to the Harris

The OPS Inc brake makes the clone.....the Noveske barrel actually comes with proper "shelf" to locate the Ops Inc Collar

You can see the Novekse gas block just behind the PRI gas block

MK12Mod0-9.jpg

The Mod1 clone project went sideways pretty quick when I managed to acquire a Satern cut rifle barrel in 6.5 Grendel

- Upper is Larue Billet
- Barrel is Satern in 6.5 Grendel with proper Badger gas block
- Brake is not correct because Ops inc wouldn't make a Model 12 style in the goofy thread that Satern decided to use 9/16-24 thread
- the machinist at Ops Inc ( their contractor actually ) was super helpful and ended up making me a Ops Inc R3E2C brake
- the KAC FF rifle length took a while since they are so passe....everyone wants URX with Keymod now !
- I have KAC rear sight buy haven't bought the front yet
- The only scope I had that could be used is not close to the correct Leupold. I also had to use Larue Riser since the scope also sits on a hunting rifle in the fall so needed the proper height rings for the bolt gun

IMO since the Ops Inc Model 12 brake is the most identifiable with the MK12 this Mod1 will have a Noveske Barrel in 6.8 SPC with the proper brake . I just haven't gotten around to swapping barrel

MK12Mod1-20.jpg

For the record, although the Ops Inc Model 12 is really a suppressor mount system, it's actually a very effective brake ( even the R3E2C ) .

Problem with the OPS inc brakes is its not really designed for efficient manufacturing ( ie multiple operations including welding )

Both these guns are great but boring bench guns ( ie punching cloverleafs at 100 yard range gets old ) . Especially the Grendel just begs to be non restricted so it can stretch its legs

The Mod 0 is not a great running and gunning upper ( even with collapsible stock ) since scope is simply not a good choice and entire upper is necessarily heavy
