Loaded up 100 of these for my 10mm, it was from an open box of projectiles I picked up somewhere along the way.

Got thinking, I should really double check what these are before I go shoot em. I know it's from a speer yellow box and they weigh 180 Gr. anyone know exactly what this is?

Have you shot these? What load are you using?

I just got my first 10mm and will be looking to load for it as well to maximize the potential. From what I have read so far they are saying that Winchester 175gr Silvertip HP are the best factory load with regards to the true potential pushing upwards of 1300fps. I have also been reading that these projectiles work very well and the accuracy is very consistent too.

Looking to replicate it but have not been able to find any Winchester 175gr (WB40St175) bullets anywhere.

I'm not so certain that they are Gold Dot unless Speer has changed the design.

The .40 Gold Dot bullets I have used recently look like this photo from Speer's website. Note the lead "wedges" exposed on the leading edge:

Those are the pics I saw that got me wondering. I Want to make sure these aren't some thin jacketed bullet that's going to cause me issues!

What they are isn't as important as how much they weigh, if they are 180gr than 11gr of Blue Dot may be a little toasty, I'd definitely start with 10gr.

Turns out they don't shoot very good, and at 1.260" it's tough to get more than 4 in the mag. They make a good loud safe bang though and I only have 100 so they will be fun but won't be bought again.

On the other hand my 155gr XTP with 12.5gr of Blue Dot work awesome so I'll be running those till I can't find anymore!

Those look like older Gold Dots. I have one or two that look much like that in .38SPL+P kicking around.

I read up that they're meant more for the .40Short&Weak's velocity and energy numbers, and won't hold up to being pushed to 10mm speeds. But that's not too big a deal for punching paper.

Definitely Gold Dots

I've been loading 800X for years in my 10mm's it is without a doubt the best but hardest powder to work with for them.

Do not only use a powder measure weigh each load individually 800X will not meter properly you can get major spikes in pressure if you don't weigh each load individually.

Yes I know this to be a fact...

With a 6" barrel I have gotten 1850fps with 135gr Nosler HP's.

What are some of the loads you run? ***Just as a point discussion of course because each gun is different and we all know we need to start low and load up.***

I don't post data anymore but you can find some of it here.

Look at the attachment for rifle data in Carphunters post my guns were 4.6" Glock 20 - 6" Delta Elite - 18.5" Contender.

Any post by Mcnett is the best info that you will ever find for 10mm data.

Aside from being a very outdated and crappy bullet the silver tips are very expensive. The one and only time I saw the component projectiles for sale they were something like .60c each. The loaded factory ammo also sucks. Out of 60 rounds I had two squibs, absolutely unacceptable for ammo marketed for defense. When I ran what was left over my chrony I got a huge velocity spread, lowest was something like 970fps with the high just over 1100fps. It is literally the ####tiest ammo I have ever used.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking to load a variety of bullets ( never realized how varied my personal stores were or .40 / 10mm boolits). I have a lot of 180, 160 & 155gr as well a load of 180gr Hornady HP-XTP). How light a bullet can you go? Any recommendations on those lightweights to maximize my fps?
