I'm looking for a barrel to finish off my rifle. I want a 20" barrel preferably in .223 wylde. Something I can hope to get MOA out of. What kind of options are out there ? And does anyone have any favorites? I've been searching around and haven't found very many.
-thanks

Mystic Precision imports Kreiger barrels. Some of the best in the industry as far as I know. There are other good options as well I am sure. Kreiger is not the only game in town. Their profiles are geared to US Service Rifle competitions though and are heavy. Many of the guys I shoot with who have Kreiger have them turned down to a smaller diameter to save weight.

I had a Bartlien barrel on a Tikka 595 in .223 wylde. It had a "gain-twist" meaning it started out as a 1-12" twist, and by the time the rifling reached the end of the barrel, the twist was 1-10", so the amount of revolutions kind of "sped up" while travelling down the barrel. It was a laser beam. Just mentioning Bartlien as they make super nice barrels also. (just another name to throw in the research hat)

I purchased a used Alberta Tactical 20" barrel in .223 wylde recently from the EE. Shoots MOA when I'm doing my part. It had about 1000 rounds through it before I purchased it and have put about 200 rounds through it so far. Very happy with it.

Another option is to try and get a used take off Colt heavy barrel. I have not run into one that hasn't shot exceptionally well, even Chrome lined.
For new pre-chambered barrels, I'd give Armalite, Rock River, Stag, etc. stainless 'NM' ones a nod if they are competitively priced (Try Wolverine for Armalite).
A completed (chambered) Lilja, Krieger, Bartlain, etc. barrel is going to set you back around $600 after taxes -and that may just be climbing with our dollar not doing as good as it was a year ago).

Remember the barrel is the heart of the AR, so certainly don't scrimp.

As already stated, For the most part they use Lilja barrels.

Thanks for the referrals guys... Can offer match AR barrels from Shilen, Krieger and McGowen.

Both Shilen and Krieger have long histories in US High power shooting and their barrels have a solid track record. 20" is the norm for the "Camp Perry" type rifles. Not a whole lot of variations as they are already swamped keeping up with the standard barrels but basic specs can be changed.

Over the last 4 to 5 years, McGowen has really taken to the AR market given the insane demands south of the border. They now offer far more configurations and options then either of the above.

And their barrels do shoot very well in this environment. To try it out, I put on a Mcgowen prefit a few years back. Shot sub MOA. Some one read the article and bought the barrel.

Now I have another on my new service rifle and it too shoots. Sub MOA seems to be the norm with some groups awfully close to that 1/2 min mark at 100yds. All good stuff. I am handloading which is critical to any gas gun.

And I have swapped in parts to better control the recoil forces of the BCG...

Prices have gone up with the exchange but Mcgowen prices were low for a match set up to begin with so I think this is still the lowest priced true match barrel prefit in Canada?

Let me know..
Jerry
